Abstract:
Provided is a method of making durable hydrophilic and hierarchical structures containing nano and micro features used as dry adhesives. The method includes introduction of hydrophilic, nanostructured features on the micro-scale tips of fibrillar arrays through UV/Ozone (UVO) and oxygen plasma treatment; the method also includes further coating of the hierarchical structure with a polyelectrolyte via electrostatically-driven self-assembly to improve the hydrophilic stability of the treated fibril tip surfaces.
Abstract:
Methods for treating various substrates to impart unique and artistic finishes thereto, comprising the application of a plurality of separate pigmented curable liquid compositions thereto. In some embodiments the pigmented curable liquid compositions are applied in such fashion to preclude formation of a homogeneous pigmented mixture. In some embodiments this is achieved by applying a second pigmented curable liquid composition over a first pigmented curable liquid composition prior to the full cure of the former. In other embodiments, this is achieved by simultaneous application of two pigmented curable liquid compositions which are non-homogeneous.
Abstract:
A coating composition including an aqueous dispersion of a copolymerization product of a mixture of monomers including carbamate-functional and (meth)acrylic monomers, some having carboxylic acid-functionality. The monomer mixture is essentially free of hydroxyl monomer. The coating can be applied on a polycarbonate substrate. The coating composition may be a clearcoat coating composition, preferably an automotive clearcoat coating composition. The invention provides a method of producing such a coating and application on a substrate, particularly as a basecoat/clearcoat composite coating, with the coating composition of the invention preferably being at least the clearcoat of the composite coating. If the substrate is a polycarbonate, the clearcoat can be applied directly on the substrate without any primer or basecoat.
Abstract:
A multilayer coating system is disclosed. The first layer is a thermally curable layer comprising one or more thermally curable groups and one or more radiation curable groups. The second layer comprises a radiation curable resin.
Abstract:

C.; and5-60% by weight an organic polyisocyanate; wherein the clear coat when cured has a water vapor permeability value of about 1400-3200.
