The apparatus mounts a locking element into a groove in an edge of a panel. An advance device feeds a stream of locking elements to a pressing device which mounts the locking elements into the groove on the edge of the panel. The locking elements are fed from a line of locking elements stored on a reel. A separating device cuts the line of locking elements into individual locking elements. The separating device is positioned either upstream of the advancing device or immediately upstream of the pressing device. When the separating device is immediately upstream of the pressing device, a spring is used to flex the stream during the short stoppage when the separating device separates individual locking elements from the line of locking elements.

Floor panels (1, 1') are shown, which are provided with a mechanical locking system that may be locked with a vertical displacement of a first panel against a second panel. The locking system comprises a flexible strip (6) that during locking bends upwardly or downwardly. The locking system comprises a first (7a) and a second (7b) joint edge section with different locking functions. One section provides a horizontal locking and another section provides a vertical locking.

A floating floor system and a floor panel and method for use with the same that includes a snap-fit locking assembly that provides vertical locking between vadjacent floor panels to minimize and/or prevent ledglng therebetween. In one embodiment, a protuberance and a recess are also provide on the floor panels to provide horizontal locking. The snap-fit locking assembly comprises: a locking member protruding from a first flange and comprising an undercut surface; and a locking slot formed In a second flange. The snap-fit locking assembly is configured so that when the locking member of a first one of the panels is disposed within the locking slot of a second one of the panels, the first and second panels are vertically locked together via mechanical interaction between the undercut surface of the locking member of the first panel and a locking surface of the second flange of the second panel

The invention relates to a floor panel assembly comprising sheet- shaped floor panels (1, 2) provided with edges, a lower side (10) and an upper side (9), whereby each panel is provided, on a first edge (5), with a first joining member (11) and, on a second edge (6), with a second joining member (12), said joining members (11, 12) being adapted to be joined by a movement of two panels with their first and second panel edges towards to each other, said joining members (11, 12) locking the panels at the adjacent edges (5, 6) vertically and horizontally, said joining members (11, 12) being provided with a locking element (20) which is deformable and/or movable, during said joining, from a first position allowing the joining members to be joined, to a second position in which it locks the joining members to each other, wherein the locking element (20) is provided on one of the joining members and comprises a first locking surface (37) adapted to co-operate with a second locking surface (38) on the other joining member. In order to allow a reliable guiding of the locking element upon joining, it is foreseen that the locking element (20) has: a tongue (33) on one end bearing said first locking surface (37); a control portion (36) near the other end; and a connecting portion (35) between them, whereby said connection portion (35) is slidably accommodated in a channel (34) and pushed towards a first end of the channel (34) when the locking element is moved and/or deformed from the first to the second position by means of the control portion (36) extending from an opposite end of the channel for co-operation with the other joining member.

The invention relates to a surface-elastic floor comprising a floor element consisting of at least one floorboard connected by means of a profile, said floor element being connected to a load distribution layer applied to an elastic layer (54) or an oscillating carrier. The aim of the invention is to simplify the structure and the laying of said floor. To this end, at least one of the floorboards is connected to at least one load distribution element (20) of the load distribution layer to form pre-fabricated assembly modules (1,1') and the profile has a horizontal and vertical locking element at least along the longitudinal edges (16, 18), that is engaged with an adjacent floorboard or an adjacent assembly module (1,1') by being brought into a right angle and/or by means of an approximately pre-determinable movement. The assembly modules (1,1') are delivered to the building site as units pre-fabricated by the manufacturer.
