PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide devices and methods for attenuating the effect of ambient light on optical sensors and for measuring and compensating quantitatively for the ambient light. SOLUTION: The sensor 110 includes a circuit board penetrating the circuit board 170, which is the circuit board concerned contained within a housing 112, and forming a passage from the top surface of the circuit board to the bottom surface of the circuit board and at least one photodetector, which is at least one photodetector 120 attached at the bottom surface of the circuit board, having an optical sensing surface deployed such that light progressing inside the passage collides with the optical sensing surface.
