Abstract: A system and method of operating a surgical navigation system to determine the location of a point of interest (POI) in a 3D coordinate frame of a surgical tool (tool frame) using a calibrated imaging device to capture an image of a portion of the surgical tool's surface the calibrated imaging device having calibration data that enables a processor of the surgical navigation system to map from a 2D location in the image to a projection line in a 3D coordinate frame of the imaging device (image frame). The system is operated to determine a mapping between an image frame and a tool frame. The processor is operated to determine the location of the POI in the tool frame based on the image and the mapping between the image frame and the tool frame.

Abstract: A product authentication system includes one or more image capture devices that provide video data representative of an enhanced safety environment. The product authentication system can determine the continuous presence of a designated product during a time period, for example, during performance of a task in an enhanced safety environment. The video data can be spatiotemporally sliced according to multiple orientations with respect to the time axis and the two spatial axes. A plurality of data streams are created where the slices of each respective data stream have the same orientation. The data streams are processed according to one or more machine learning models, such as convolutional neural networks trained to determine whether the designated product is continuously present in the video data. An indicator of the continuous presence of the designated product can be provided to a downstream system and used to indicate whether functions of the downstream system are to be performed.

An image/video capture device such as an endoscope, a wearable camera, a stationary camera, etc., can be used to capture the image(s). A surgeon can be provided an augmented visualization of the surgical procedure by displaying one or more graphical overlays based on the findings of the machine learning to enhance the surgeon's information.

Abstract: Embodiments described in this disclosure include a process for collecting energy tool usage data from surgical videos and using such data for post surgery analysis. The process can begin by receiving a plurality of surgical videos of a surgical procedure involving an energy tool. For each surgical video in the plurality of surgical videos, the process detects a set of activation events in the surgical video, wherein each detected activation event includes an identified starting timestamp and a duration. The process further extracts a set of energy tool usage data based on the set of detected activation events, and then stores the extracted set of energy tool usage data in a database indexed based on a set of energy tool usage metrics. Next, in response to a user search request, the process returns the stored energy tool usage data that matches the search request from the database.

Each of the plurality of videos including video data of a first surgical procedure comprising a plurality of surgical steps. The method further including identifying a first surgical step included in the plurality of surgical steps within a first video segment in each of the plurality of videos. The method also including warping the first video segment to standardize a dimension of the first video segment in each of the plurality of videos.
