Abstract:
A fax device having a memory for storing a list of blocked callers and the capability to receive caller identification information. As calls are received the fax device compares the caller identification information of the incoming call to the list of blocked callers. If the telephone number of the incoming call is contained in the list of blocked callers, a connection is denied. If the number is not contained in the list, the call is connected. The list of blocked callers may be automatically maintained by monitoring incoming calls for frequency, date, time and number of pages. The factors may be combined to determine a usage value. If the usage value exceeds a predetermined threshold, the incoming telephone number may be added to the list of blocked callers. A list of trusted callers prevents trusted phone numbers from accidentally being added to the blocked list. A list of urgent callers includes actions such as forwarding and messaging to determine how to handle a received fax from a certain number.
Abstract:
A communication apparatus where transmission waiting time for an originating facsimile machine is shortened. A transmitter/receiver section of one of two communication control sections receives a transmission subscriber identification (TSI) signal from the originating facsimile machine. A determination new section extracts an international telephone number from the TSI signal and determines whether or not it coincides with a pre-stored international telephone number. If they coincide, the transmitter/receiver section receives an object signal in succession, otherwise the transmitter/receiver section ends the receiving operation without receiving the object signal. Further, when both communication control sections receive object signals at the same time, a line selecting section supplies the object signal received by the communication control section that has received an international telephone number that coincides with the pre-stored international telephone number to an image output section, prior to the object signal received by the other communication control section for printing a recording sheet.
Abstract:
A call screening device includes a switch circuit and a controller. The switch circuit is adapted to be connected to a facsimile machine and a telephone line. The controller is coupled electrically to the switch circuit and is adapted to be connected to the telephone line. The controller includes a data storage unit for storing telephone numbers, an incoming call detector adapted to detect a caller telephone number associated with an incoming call on the telephone line, and a comparator unit for making a comparison between the caller telephone number detected by the incoming call detector and the telephone numbers stored in the data storage unit, and for controlling the switch circuit to make or break connection between the facsimile machine and the telephone line according to the result of the comparison made by the comparator unit.
Abstract:
A communication apparatus includes a main unit and a communication control unit. The communication control unit informs the main unit of an incoming call. The main unit makes a judgement on whether the incoming call should be accepted. In accordance with this judgement, the main unit instructs the communication control unit to respond to the incoming call. The communication control unit responds to the incoming call in accordance with the judgement by the main unit. In accordance with the state of a memory for storing received signals or with the called party number, the main unit makes a judgement on whether the incoming call should be rejected or ignored.
Abstract:
A method and system for controlling unwanted phone calls. In response to a determination that a phone number of a current incoming call to a user is not a phone number in a contact list including phone numbers of the user's contacts and to a determination that the phone number of the current incoming call is a phone number in a phone list of a shared table, the shared table for the previous call duration is analyzed for the previous call duration and the previous sentiment of the user during a previous incoming phone call for the phone number of the current incoming call to the user. It is ascertained, from analyzing the shared table for the previous call duration, that the previous call duration is less than a predetermined call duration and the previous sentiment is a negative sentiment, and in response the current incoming call is rejected.
Abstract:
A communication apparatus includes a communication unit. When receiving a request to start communication from a second communication apparatus during communication with a first communication apparatus, the communication unit transmits to the second communication apparatus a communication disabled notification with a retransmission time period indicating a time until the request to start communication again. In addition, when receiving a request to start communication from a third communication apparatus after completing the communication with the first communication apparatus and before receiving the request to start communication sent again from the second communication apparatus based on the retransmission time period, the communication unit does not start data reception from the third communication apparatus so as to give priority to data communication with the second communication apparatus.
Abstract:
A method includes determining, at a processor of a computing device, whether an incoming transmission to a first destination is authorized at an electronic device of a communication network. The method includes, in response to determining that the incoming transmission is not authorized, determining whether a particular type of content is communicated via the incoming transmission. The incoming transmission is routed to the first destination when the particular type of content is not communicated via the incoming transmission, and the incoming transmission is not routed to the first destination when the particular type of content is communicated via the incoming transmission.
Abstract:
Provided are a fax data transmission controller, a fax server, a fax system, and a method of providing the fax system. The fax data transmission controller can store fax data received via a public switched telephone network (PSTN), and transmit the stored fax data to a fax server, to a facsimile, or to a user computer. The fax server can filter fax data that is received or to be transmitted, and perform authentication on the content of the fax data.
Abstract:
A system includes a switch responsive to a control module. The control module that determines whether an incoming telephone call from a telephone number to a telephone line is a facsimile call or a voice call and whether facsimile calls are authorized to be routed to the telephone line. When the incoming telephone call is a voice call, the control module instructs a switch to route the incoming telephone call to the telephone line. When the incoming telephone call is a voice call, the control module instructs the switch to route the incoming telephone call to the telephone line when facsimile calls are authorized, and to deny routing the incoming telephone call to the telephone line when facsimile calls are not authorized.
