Abstract:
A carrier device for a contact image sense optical scanner. The carrier device incorporates a pair of magnets with identical poles facing each other or a fluid filled sealed chamber for exerting an equal pressure on a scanning module within the scanner and maintaining close contact with a document platform throughout a scanning operation.
Abstract:
In an illumination device, a light guide is adapted to emit the light from a face thereof and is provided with an area, on a face opposite to the light emitting face, for diffusing and/or reflecting the light introduced into the light guide from an end face thereof or is provided with uneven light emitting characteristics along the longitudinal direction of the light guide, and the center of the light source positioned at the end of the light guide is placed at a position aberrated from the normal line to the area, whereby attained are compactness, a low cost, a low electric power consumption, a high efficiency of utilization of the light emitted by the light source, and excellent and uniform illumination characteristics. An image reading device and an information processing apparatus can also be equipped with the above-mentioned illumination device.
Abstract:
A lighting device includes a light source that illuminates an object of illumination, a reflecting member provided opposite the light source so as to direct a first part of illuminating light emitted therefrom to the object of illumination, and a light-blocking member provided between the light source and the object of illumination and between the reflecting member and the object of illumination. The light-blocking member blocks the first directed part of the illuminating light and a second part of the illuminating light directly illuminating the object of illumination with a certain ratio of a light-blocking rate for the first directed part of the illuminating light to a light-blocking rate for the second directly illuminating part of the illuminating light.
Abstract:
A contact image sensor module has a light source, at least one reflective element and a photoelectric conversion element. The photoelectric conversion element is arranged between the light source and the reflective element, such that the light from the light source is directed toward the manuscript. The reflective element receives the light reflected from the manuscript, and then the light is reflected back to the manuscript. The photoelectric conversion element receives light directed from the light source and the reflective element toward the manuscript, and then the light is converted into an electric signal, thus eliminating the dark band problem of the manuscript.
Abstract:
An image reading imaging optical system for imaging image information on a line sensor and reading the image information has an imaging optical element including a plurality of off-axial reflecting surfaces differing in the direction of incidence and the direction of emergence of a reference axis ray from one another and having curvatures.
Abstract:
There is disclosed an image reading apparatus constructed by an illuminating unit for illuminating an object in a line shape, an image forming optical system for forming a light, as an image, from the object illuminated by the illuminating unit, a line sensor for converting the light formed as an image by the image forming optical system into an image signal, and a frame for holding the illuminating unit and the line sensor, wherein a shape in which vertices of at least a part of the cross section of the illuminating unit are connected by straight lines is set to a polygon of a pentagon or more, so that an image can be stably read at a high quality.
Abstract:
An image reader includes a transparent plate (1) having end portions (1a and 1b) that are chamfered in a direction in which a document is carried thereon. The transparent plate (1) has recess portions (11aand 11b) formed in a lower surface thereof, and a housing (4) is engaged into the recess portions of the transparent plate. The image reader can prevent such a document as a check or banknote from being jammed, can be easily assembled and improve the reliability of the carrying of the document, and enables higher-speed reading.

Abstract:
An image reading apparatus is provided which includes a cold-cathode tube as a light source for illuminating a document sheet, an inverter for providing the light source with driving power. A connection cable is used for electrically connecting the light source to the inverter. The image reading apparatus also includes three kinds of rows of light receiving elements arranged in the primary scanning direction for detecting the light reflected on the document sheet. A lens array is provided for focusing the reflected light at the respective rows of light receiving elements. The light receiving elements are mounted on a printed circuit board. The light source, the inverter, the lens array and the printed circuit board are supported by a single case of the image reading apparatus.
Abstract:
In a contact type image sensor having a sensor array mounting photosensors, a focussing unit for focussing light from an original upon the photosensors, and a frame for holding in position the sensor-array and focussing unit, the focussing unit abuts on the sensor array. In a contact type image sensor having a sensor array having a plurality of face-down sensor chips with a plurality of pixels mounted on a transparent substrate in line, a rod lens array for focussing light from an original, a light source for illuminating the original, and a frame for holding in position the sensor array, rod lens array, the transparent substrate is covered with a light shielding layer in an area other than an area on which the pixels of the sensor chips are mounted and an area corresponding to a focussing area of the rod lens array.
