Abstract:
A method is provided for producing wear resistant traffic markings. The method includes the application of a traffic paint composition containing select copolymer particles bearing acetoacetyl moieties and aminosilane. Also provided is a traffic marking prepared by the method of the present invention. The method allows the preparation of wear resistant traffic markings with low levels of aminosilane relative to the level of the acetoacetyl moieties.
Abstract:
A process and system for applying an adhesive to a core during the production of rolled paper products is disclosed. The system of the present invention is generally directed to the use of pumping devices that meter out constant volumetric amounts of an adhesive onto a core through a plurality of adhesive applicators simultaneously. The systems includes, for instance, a positive displacement pump system in which a fluid at substantially constant pressure is fed to a pumping device for dispensing the adhesive to a plurality of adhesive applicators in constant volumetric amounts.
Abstract:
Faceless PSA label constructions of this invention comprise a flexible substrate having a release surface, and a layer of pressure-sensitive adhesive disposed on the release surface. A nonblocking continuous film that, in combination with the pressure-sensitive adhesive is sufficiently self supporting, is disposed over a surface of the layer of pressure-sensitive adhesive to render the pressure-sensitive adhesive tack free. The continuous film is selected from the group of film-forming polymers consisting of polyamide resins, polyester resins, polyurethane resins, polyacrylate resins, vinyl acetate resins and mixtures thereof having a tensile strength of at least 200 psi, and a percent elongation of at least 50. The continuous film can be applied sequentially or simultaneously with the PSA. For purposes of simultaneous application it is desired that the continuous film be formed from a material having a hot melt viscosity that is within a factor of about two times a hot melt viscosity for the PSA. The completed faceless PSA label construction is adapted to receive and retain printing or marking indicia directly onto a surface of the continuous film.
Abstract:
A system for manufacturing a trim panel includes a plurality of rollers for routing a foam core of the trim panel along a path. A first doctor blade for applying an adhesive resin is disposed adjacent to the first side of the foam core. A second doctor blade for applying an adhesive resin to the second side of the foam core is disposed adjacent the second side of the foam core. The system further includes a mixing head having an output port. A mixing tube is attached to the output port. The mixing head defines first, second, and third distinct fluid paths for the first, second and third components, respectively. The first, second, and third fluid ports extend to the output port. In use, the system continuously monitors the actual application rate of the adhesive resin and compares this actual application rate to a desired application rate and adjusts the pump output accordingly.
Abstract:
The present invention pertains to an arrangement for the controlled application of adhesive to substrate. In at least one embodiment, the arrangement comprises a) an adhesive reservoir, b) a pump, c) an applicator head having at least one applicator nozzle, d) a volume throughput sensor, and e) a monitoring unit. The reservoir, the pump, and the applicator head are connected together by a conduit system carrying the adhesive. The volume throughput sensor and the monitoring unit are connected together by a pulse transmission line. The monitoring unit, the feed pump, and the applicator head are connected together by control lines. In at least one embodiment, the application of adhesive to substrates is controlled by measuring the volume throughput of the adhesive, transmitting signals indicative of volume throughout to the monitoring unit, and controlling the amount of adhesive applied to the substrate material in-line in response to the signals.
Abstract:
Articles for applying color on a surface comprise a sheet of dry color component and an adhesive on one surface of the sheet of dry color component. In one embodiment, the article is free of a releasable liner and a carrier sheet. In another embodiment, the sheet of dry color component and adhesive have a combined thickness of about 3 mils or less. Methods for providing a substantially permanent color effect on an architectural surface comprise applying dry color component to the architectural surface.
Abstract:
An apparatus and method for applying glue is provided in which glue and water are selectively provided to a spray nozzle wherein the water supplied to the nozzle is used to remove any residual glue present after a gluing application. In one preferred embodiment, an outer conduit surrounds an inner conduit defining a first channel therebetween. The inner conduit supplies glue and the first channel supplies water. The outer conduit and the inner conduit are slidably engaged with each other. At least one spray nozzle is in communication with an outer conduit orifice. Slide conduit orifice valving provides selective communication of the outer conduit orifice with an inner conduit orifice and the first channel for selectively supplying glue, water, or neither to the spray nozzle.
Abstract:
The present invention relates to optical elements comprising fluorochemical surface treatments. The invention further relates to articles such as retroreflective sheetings, pavement markings and beaded projection screens comprising a binder and the surface treated optical elements. The surface treatment comprises at least one fluoropolymer selected from a) fluoropolymers comprising a fluorinated hydrocarbon backbone and side chains comprising at least one of fluoroalkyl, fluoroether alkyl, fluoroalkoxy and mixtures thereof; and b) fluoropolymers comprising a hydrocarbon backbone and side chains comprising at least one of fluoroether alkyl, fluoroalkoxy and mixtures thereof.
Abstract:
Methods of manufacturing composite webs including a substrate with one or more reinforcing discrete polymeric regions located on or within the composite web are disclosed. Molten nonelastomeric thermoplastic material of the discrete polymeric region is forced against the substrate by a transfer roll. If the substrate is porous, fibrous, etc., a portion of the nonelastomeric thermoplastic composition may infiltrate the substrate and/or encapsulate fibers of the substrate.
