PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a process for producing an aqueous dispersion which can easily produce an aqueous dispersion having a small average particle diameter, a small amount of unemulsified material, a narrow particle diameter distribution, and excellent filterability.SOLUTION: Provided is a process for producing an aqueous dispersion by preparing a phase inversion material by dispersing an ethylenic polymer in an aqueous medium by a twin screw extruder (10) having two screws (12a) and (12b), arranged in a barrel (11) and by cooling the phase inversion material by using a cooling means (an extruder for cooling (20)). Here, the twin screw extruder (10) and the cooling means are connected through a connection pipe (30a) and a difference (T-T) between a temperature (T) of a barrel tip (11b) and a temperature (T) of the connection pipe (30a) is set in a range of 30 to 100°C.
