Abstract:
PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To minimize waste of propellant, i.e., achieve an optimum efficiency. SOLUTION: In the method for controlling the thrust of a rocket motor 204, valves of an actuated rocket motor 204 are configured to an initial total valve area according to a total thrust command. The total thrust command is converted into a commanded propellant mass flow discharge rate. A varying total valve area is computed from an error between the commanded propellant mass flow discharge rate and a calculated propellant mass flow discharge rate. The valves are configured according to a distribution of the varying total valve area. The propulsion thrust control system comprises a pressure vessel 114 provided with valves, and a controller for regulating the valve area in accordance with the propellant mass flow discharge rate from the pressure vessel. PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method and system for detecting and analyzing forensic evidence, with high performance. SOLUTION: A digital image of background radiation is taken from a suspicious evidence area suspected to contain evidence. The suspicious evidence area is exposed to a high-intensity pulse of ultraviolet radiation. Another digital image of the fluorescence within the exposed suspicious evidence area is taken. The digital images are processed to create a composite digital image showing regions of evidence. The composite digital image is analyzed to determine the wavelength of the fluorescent radiation emitted from the regions of evidence. The composite evidence image and the analysis results are displayed. The system includes a digital camera, an ultraviolet light source, a computer and display, and a computer program installed on the computer. COPYRIGHT: (C)2006,JPO&NCIPI
Abstract:
PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an integrated ordnance system and its method of various subsystems inside a launchable vehicle without bringing additional weight of cable wiring and congestion. SOLUTION: This system uses an addressable common bus structured to have data sent and received. The addressable bus is joined to an ordnance controller which includes a controlling process and a remote measurement process, and is structured to control the bus. The ordnance system includes an initiator joined to the addressable bus for responding to the controlling process, and a remote measuring sensor structured to join the addressable bus for interacting with the remote measurement process. This method controls the ordnance system by receiving remote measurement data from the remote measurement sensor through the addressable bus, and the ordnance is further controlled by the ordnance controller through the addressable bus. Abstract:
PURPOSE: To add new data continually after pertinent data while maintaining an interval between with data on a tape recorded last time to be within a prescribed range in a halical scan tape recorder. CONSTITUTION: The total delay of a write/read circuit 26 is measured and the adding of new data is started continually after data recorded last time at the point of the time of securing a desired interval by using this total delay. In addition when adding operation is plurally and consecutively executed in a period shorter than the temporarily responding time of servo circuits 32 and 34, the error of the measured value of the total delay is compensated to prevent the generation of a creeping phenomenon.
Abstract:
PURPOSE: To make accurate high-resolution color reproduction possible by providing a shadow test pattern for color and correcting a signal indicating the color of a color recorder by comparing a signal indicating the reference shadow of the pattern with a signal indicating a recorded actual shadow. CONSTITUTION: A test pattern video is generated on a CRT 22 by generating one set of test pattern signals indicating the plurality of shadows of a color and a recording medium 12 is exposed to the video. When the test pattern is developed on the medium 12, a photodetector 52 detects signals respectively indicating an unexposed background and the luminance of each shadow of each color and supplies the signals to a microcomputer 70. Then one set of measured reflectance values is obtained by adjusting the detected color value of each color against a dark current and a background value. Thereafter, the microcomputer 70 can find a generated corrected signal by obtaining one set of values of a relevant density from the test pattern by converting each reflectance value into a density value.

Abstract:
The present invention in some aspects is directed to small arms ammunition and programmed upset characteristics thereof imparted to them using lasers. More particularly, the invention relates to ammunition and methods of making ammunition having predetermined patterns of engraving and/or cutting or hardening and/or annealing imparted into the forward portion using a programming laser system adapted for treating projectiles to effect predetermined and consistent upset configurations. Lasers may be used in forming steps of the bullet core to provide petaling or other performance objectives before or after jacketing or without jacketing.
