Abstract:
This invention relates to a fuel filter for use with internal combustion engines. The fuel filter includes a fuel additive that can be released into fuel. The rate of release for the fuel can be controlled. In one form the fuel additive can be mixed with a matrix material and released at a substantially constant rate to maintain a uniform level of fuel additive in the fuel. Use of the present invention provides a fuel filter having an extended life span that is longer than fuel filters typically used with combustion engines.
Abstract:
A filter seal (141) for a cylindrical air filter (140) includes a polyurethane member which is configured with two primary portions (141a, 155). One portion (141a) is an annular body which is formed with an annular receiving channel (154), which is sized to receive one end of a corresponding filter element (142). The other portion (155) is an annular sealing lip disposed in spaced relation to the receiving channel (154). This sealing lip includes a ribbed, radial-sealing surface and a convex, axial-sealing surface (164). The radial-sealing surface provides sealing contact with an outlet portion of the housing by means of tension while axial sealing is achieved by compression of the axial-sealing surface against a generally planar surface of the housing. In addition to these two modes of sealing engagement, differential pressure forces cause the sealing lip to press tightly against the housing to enhance the sealing.
Abstract:
A snap-together, all-plastic filter assembly (20) for filtering fluids includes a generally cylindrical injection molded plastic outer shell (21) which has a closed base (36) and an open opposite end (35) and which defines a hollow interior which receives a filtering element (23) and an integral injection molded plastic end plate/center tube member (22). The outer shell is injection molded with a pair of concentric, generally cylindrical, inner annular walls (28a, 29a) which are integral with the closed base and extend part way toward the open end of the outer shell. The filtering element which has a hollow interior fits down within the outermost of the two concentric annular walls (29a) and the center tube of the end plate/center tube member extends through the center of the filtering element and snaps in place by means of snap-fit pockets (28b, 28c) disposed within the innermost of the two concentric annular walls.
Abstract:
An exhaust aftertreatment system, including injection of chemical species, has a mixer in the exhaust pipe between the injector and the aftertreatment element. The mixer is provided by a stamped muffler flange.
Abstract:
A magnetic check valve includes a cage mountable in a fluid flow duct and supporting a plunger movable between a closed position blocking fluid flow past the valve, and an open position permitting fluid flow past the valve. One of the cage and the plunger includes a magnet, and the other of the cage and the plunger includes ferrous material magnetically attracted to the magnet to magnetically bias the plunger to the closed position.
Abstract:
An ultra-compact combination exhaust muffler and aftertreatment element and water trap assembly provides exhaust flow through an aftertreatment element surrounded by an annular water collection space receiving water diverted and shed from an upper dome cap above the aftertreatment element and below the upper outlet. In a further embodiment, the assembly includes housing sections separable from each other at a service joint axially between axial ends of the aftertreatment element for ease of servicing. In a further aspect, the aftertreatment element has an axial end within a housing section saving axial extension space.
Abstract:
A filter is provided by pleated filter media having a plurality of pleats defined by wall segments extending axially along an axial direction along an axis and extending transversely along a transverse direction between first and second sets of pleat tips at first and second sets of axially extending bend lines. The pleated filter media spans laterally along a lateral span along a lateral direction, with the wall segments being spaced from each other by lateral gaps. The pleats have a pleat depth along the transverse direction along the wall segments between the first and second sets of pleat tips. The pleat depth varies as the pleated filter media spans laterally along the lateral direction.
Abstract:
A pressure gradient dosing system is provided for a fluid supply system. A flow passage has first and second pressure zones having a pressure gradient therebetween. An additive reservoir in an additive delivery system responds to the pressure gradient to release additive to the flow passage.
