Abstract:
A method for rapidly detecting the presence or absence of a particular nucleic acid sequence at a candidate locus in a target nucleic acid sample comprises the steps of: i) introducing a modified base which is a substrate for a DNA glycosylase into said candidate locus at one or more preselected positions; ii) excising the modified base by means of said DNA glycosylase so as to generate an abasic site; iii) cleaving phosphate linkages at abasic sites generated in step ii); and iv) analysing the cleavage products of step iii) so as to identify in said target nucleic acid sequence the presence or absence of said particular nucleic acid sequence at said candidate locus. The method has particular application for detecting specific mutations in a DNA sample, including the detection of multiple known mutations in DNA. Large throughput of sample can be achieved rapidly and easily.

An air conditioning apparatus (1) comprising a pair of adjacent parallel air ducts, namely a conditioned air duct (4) and an ambient air duct (5), the ducts (4,5) having a common side wall (7). A fan (14) delivers an air stream through the conditioned air duct (4) to condition the air stream. A fan 15 delivers ambient air through the ambient air duct (5). Mounted within the ambient air duct (5) is a refrigeration unit having a condenser (20) and an evaporator (21). The condenser (20) and evaporator (21) are slidable between the two ducts (4,5) along tracks (43,46) extending through openings (25,26) in the side wall (7) to condition air passed through the conditioned air duct (4) to a pre-set desired condition.

A display unit for articles comprises a plurality of elongate channels 3 suspended one from the other. Each of the channels 3 is of generally J-shaped cross-section for supporting the articles in the troughs thereby formed. Each longer arm of the J-shaped channel has a hook 3a which is engageable with the shorter arm of a J-shaped channel above. On the uppermost channel 3, the hook 3a is engageable with a bracket 2a or other support on a display surface 1 so as to provide a suspended tiered display. Struts in the form of sockets fixed to the rear of the channels 3 and rods 4 engaged in the sockets act as supports for the channels 3 against the mounting surface 1.

An ac/dc converter has a two switch buck boost (2SBB) ac/dc stage (2) integrated with an isolated full or half-bridge dc/dc stage (3). A modulator (4, 25) for the 2SBB input switch (Q 1 ) controls the current in the power transfer inductor of the 2SBB. It causes dis-continuity of the current while minimising its peak level by exerting control on both turn-on and turn-off of the input switch. An intermediate dc voltage generated by the 2SBB has a level below that of the maximum peak input voltage and control is exerted over the inrush current.

Ensemble de pavage (1) comportant une pluralité d'éléments de pavage (2) reliés les uns aux autres par un treillis (5) de renforcement et d'interconnexion en matière plastique. Les éléments de pavage voisins (2) sont reliés les uns aux autres par des éléments de liaison cassables (15) assurant l'espacement des éléments (2) de manière à former des interstices (9) destinés à recevoir du sable de scellement. Les éléments de liaison (15) présentent des lignes de faille (16) permettant la rupture des éléments de liaison (15) afin d'ajuster l'articulation entre les éléments de pavage voisins (2) lors de leur mise en place. Un verrouillage réciproque est formé par voie mécanique lorsque le pavage est installé et que les faces des éléments de liaison (15) entrent en contact les unes avec les autres. Un support jetable (5) pour fil dentaire comporte une partie de base (10) et une paire de mâchoires écartées l'une de l'autre (11, 12). Un segment de fil dentaire (13) s'étend entre ces dernières. La tête (4) possède une rainure (20) dans laquelle s'engage et se bloque ladite partie de base (10) quelle que soit l'orientation du dispositif pendant l'utilisation du fil dentaire. Des parties saillantes (15) assurant la solidarisation par encliquetage s'étendent vers l'intérieur à partir des mâchoires (11, 12) du support (5) et se bloquent derrière les bords marginaux (25) du fond (24) de la rainure (20). Après utilisation, on enlève le support (5) pour fil dentaire et on met en place un support neuf (5).

In apparatus for conveying batches of ice lumps from a storage hopper (2) to remotely located ice dispensers (7), ice lumps from the storage hopper (2) are delivered into the main conduits (5) through corresponding main valves (20) and connecting conduits (25) extending between each main valve (20) and the storage hopper (2). Metering valves (14) meter batches of ice lumps of predetermined size into the main conduits (5). Conveying air from an air blower (10) is supplied to the main conduits (5) through the main valves (20) for conveying the batches of ice lumps. In use, batches of ice lumps are intermittently delivered into the main conduit (5), and the batches of ice lumps and conveying air are alternately supplied to the main conduit (5).
