Abstract: A compound for treating a disease, in particular cancer like non-small cell lung cancer, exceptionally inhibits activity of oncogenic ALK kinase. Compositions, particularly pharmaceutical compositions, are provided comprising this compound. Methods for targeting cancer cells harboring an abnormality in the ALK gene are also The compound for treating a disease has certain structural elements, namely a tricyclic, more specifically heterocyclic, backbone as the core part of the compound at least one highly electronegative atom in form of a tertiary amine attached to the backbone via an at most 6-membered linking group with a terminal highly electronegative atom in form of a nitrogen as secondary amine, and a further hydrophobic moiety fused to the backbone. The structural components allow for an advantageous interaction with the ALK kinase domain. The compound therefor represents a highly promising treatment option for patients in particular those bearing ALK-dependent non-small cell lung cancer.

Abstract: A method for treating a subject suffering from a cancer, in particular a multidrug-resistant cancer includes administrating a cobalt-polypyridyl complex to the subject. A method for suppressing the growth of cancer cells, in particular inducing autophagy of the cancer cells, inducing cell cycle arrest of the cancer cells and/or inhibiting cell invasion of the cancer cells and for specifically targeting cancer cells with multidrug-resistance includes contacting said cancer cells with the cobalt-polypyridyl complex. A pharmaceutical composition and a kit are provided and include the cobalt-polypyridyl complex. Unexpectedly, the cobalt-polypyridyl complex is especially suitable to treat cancer, in particular multidrug-resistant cancer with an exceptionally increased cytotoxic activity towards multidrug-resistant cancer cells.

Abstract: In widely deployed wireless “hot-spot” networks, nodes frequently join or leave, inelastic/elastic and saturated/non-satuarted flows coexist. In such dynamic and diverse environments, it is challenging to maximize the channel utilization while providing satisfactory user experiences. In this invention, one proposes a novel contention-on-demand (CoD) MAC scheme to address this problem. The CoD scheme consists of a fixed-CW algorithm, a dynamic-CW algorithm, and an admission control unit. The fixed-CW algorithm allows elastic flows to access limited system bandwidth; the dynamic-CW algorithm enables inelastic flows to contend for channel on demand and quickly adapt to network change; and the admission control unit rejects overloaded traffic for providing good user experiences. One then performs an asymptotic analysis to develop a simple but efficient admission control rule. Finally, extensive simulations verify that the scheme is very effective and the theoretical result is very accurate.

Abstract: Compute-intensive packet processing (CIPP) in a computer system comprising a programmable computing platform is accelerated by using a packet I/O engine, implemented on the platform, to perform packet I/O functions, where the packet I/O engine is configured to achieve direct access to a network interface card (NIC) from a user application. For a Linux-based computer system, standard I/O mechanisms of Linux are bypassed and only the packet I/O engine is used in performing the I/O functions. Furthermore, the computer system is configured to: process a batch of packets, instead of packet by packet, in every function call; and when moving a packet between a buffer of an individual user application and a queue of the packet I/O engine, copy a packet descriptor of the packet instead the entire packet. In addition, workflows across different working threads are balanced and parallelism is exploited to fully utilize resources of the platform.

Abstract: A caffeoylquinic acid-rich extract obtained from Erigeron multiradiatus and a method for producing the same. A caffeoylquinic acid-rich extract includes at least 15% by weight of a mixture of certain caffeoylquinic acids. Abstract: Recent trends of larger wafer and smaller lot sizes bring cluster tools with frequent lot switches. Practitioners must deal with more transient processes during such switches, including start-up and close-down processes. To obtain higher yield, it is necessary to shorten the duration of transient processes. Much prior effort was poured into the modeling and scheduling for the steady state of cluster tools. In the existing literature, no attention has been turned to optimize the close-down process for single-arm cluster tools with wafer residency constraints. This invention intends to do so by 1) developing a Petri net model to analyze their scheduling properties and 2) proposing Petri net-based methods to solve their close-down optimal scheduling problems under different workloads among their process steps. Industrial examples are used to illustrate the effectiveness and application of the proposed methods.
