Abstract:
Disclosed is a process for the production of ammonia comprising a step wherein synthesis gas is formed in two different ways, viz. by catalytic partial oxidation (31) and by steam reforming, and wherein the combined streams of synthesis gas are subjected to a water gas shift reaction (50). Also disclosed is a process of producing urea, wherein ammonia is formed (90) in a process involving said combined streams and wherein carbon dioxide (110) formed in the same process is reacted with said ammonia so as to form urea.
Abstract:
Disclosed is a method of measuring the level of a liquid in a vessel, such as a chemical reactor, by radar. The method particularly pertains to situations wherein a supercritical fluid is present above the liquid. More particularly, the method serves to cope with the typical vigorous circumstances of a chemical reaction, such as urea synthesis. The invention foresees the use of a tube extending into the liquid, so as to guide the radar waves to the surface level of the liquid.
Abstract:
The invention relates to a method for urea production and to a urea production plant wherein ammonia emission in the final step of forming urea prills is reduced. In the method, the concentration of a urea solution is performed in at least three consecutive concentration steps and the residence time of urea melt leaving a last concentrator to the prilling tower is minimised. This can be achieved by placing the last concentrator in adjacency with a urea melt inlet of the prilling tower, such as above the prilling tower. In this way, the ammonia emission in the prilling tower can be reduced by as much as 50% compared to the conventional urea production plants. The invention further relates to a method for reducing ammonia emission in the prilling tower of an existing urea production plant.
Abstract:
Disclosed is a reactor system for the production of polyester pre-condensate. The system comprises at least two reaction zones, operating at substantially different pressure. Reactants fed into the first zone are allowed to initially react and are then allowed to enter a second zone by means of pressure flow. In the second zone, a system of concentric spacers is present so as to ensure a sufficient path length of the reaction mixture to form a pre-condensate, as well as in internal heat exchanger. The pre-condensate is allowed to flow to a next (polymerization) stage by means of gravity flow on account of a standpipe present in the second reaction zone. Said standpipe has an inlet above the internal heating system in the second reaction zone.
Abstract:
Disclosed is a process for the production of a syngas mixture by catalytic partial oxidation. The syngas mixture is suitable as an intermediate in the production of hydrogen. According to the invention, the syngas is cooled, prior to a water gas shift reaction, with liquid water. This has the advantage of avoiding the problem of metal dusting, and it presents a gas mixture comprising water vapor that is particularly suitable for a water gas shift reaction in the production of hydrogen.
Abstract:
The present invention relates to a method for hydrogen production and to a method of hydrogen and/or carbon dioxide production from syngas. The method comprises the steps of: (i) providing a gas stream comprising hydrogen and carbon monoxide, (ii) separating at least part of hydrogen from the stream yielding a hydrogen-depleted stream, (iii) subjecting the hydrogen- depleted stream to a water-gas shift reaction, and (iv) separating hydrogen from the stream resulting from step (iii). The method according to the invention improves the conversion of carbon monoxide in the water gas shift reaction and allows to increase the hydrogen production by 10-15% and to increase the overall energy efficiency of the system by 5-7%. The invention further relates to a plant for hydrogen and/or carbon dioxide production suitable for the method of the invention.
Abstract:
To start a combined cycle thermal plant for energy- production from an off -state to an operational state, once the minimum warm-up time of the steam turbine (ST) having been set, as well as the pressure of the warm-up steam, it is necessary to determine the steam optimum temperature to avoid stressing or straining the mechanical parts of the turbine itself.
Abstract:
The invention relates to urea plant with a CO2 and NH3 feed, which comprises a purge line, characterized in that the purge line is connected with a fuel gas input line of a utility plant or an NH3 plant.
Abstract:
Process for the racemization of an amino acid amide with general formula (I), the amino acid amide being brought into contact with an enzyme with amino acid amide racemase activity. In particular the invention relates to a process for enzymatic preparation of optically active amino acids from amino acid amides by bringing the amino acid amide into contact with a biocatalyst which in addition possesses L- or D-amidase activity.
