Abstract:
The invention is directed to a process of treating waste materials, particularly petroleum cracking catalyst waste containing contaminating and/or valuable metals to decontaminate the waste and/or recover the metals therefrom which process comprises the reduction of the metals contained in the waste in the presence of a slag former such as a silica-alumina composite, a flux such as a Group IA or IIA oxide and a phosphate containing compound. The metals are recovered as metals or metal phosphides in a distinct ferrophos layer. The accumulated metals can be further processed to recover the metal content thereof. The process parallels the electrothermal process for producing phosphorus which is desirably utilized as disclosed herein to recover valuable Group VB to Group VIII metals.

Abstract:
Tin tetra-alkoxides absent halogenic impurities are prepared by a two-step process comprising a first step reaction of tin tetrahalide with an alcohol and ammonia. A second step reacts the product of the first step with a metal amide and additional alcohol. An alternative second step reacts the product of the first step with a metal alkoxide.

Abstract:
The monofluorophosphate compatibility of dicalcium phosphate dihydrate can be improved in processes in which a slaked lime slurry is reacted with phosphoric acid to form a monocalcium phosphate solution to which is added magnesium oxide, additional lime slurry and pyrophosphoric acid with later removal of the dicalcium phosphate dihydrate. The improvement involved adding the magnesium oxide at O.3% - 2% and adding O.1% - less than O.5% of trimagnesium phosphate to the recovered dicalcium phosphate dihydrate.
Abstract:
An inhalation apparatus for exposing small laboratory animals, e.g., rats, to a test atmosphere in such a manner that the animals are exposed to a uniform concentration of the test atmosphere containing substantially no exhaled materials. The apparatus comprises an animal holding tube means capable of positioning the nose of an animal at a fixed point within the tube means. The tube means is provided with a test atmosphere inlet means located in the vicinity of the nose and an exhaust outlet means such that the test atmosphere can be inhaled by the animal then exhausted rearward of the nose of the animal. A plurality of these animal holding tube means can be combined by connecting their inlet means to a first plenum duct that is in communication with a source of the test atmosphere and connecting their outlet means to a second plenum duct for exhausting substantially all exhaled materials and excess test atmosphere.
