Abstract: The present invention relates to a composition for preventing hair loss or improving hair growth, comprising, as an active ingredient, the compound 3-O-(6-deoxy-6-sulfo-α-D-glucopyranosyl)-2-O-palmitoyl-glycerol isolated from an extract of Padina arborescens. The composition according to the present invention has effects in the inhibition of 5α-reductase activity, the proliferation of NIH3T3 fibroblasts, and the growth and proliferation of dermal papilla cells playing an important role in the hair growth. Therefore, the composition of the present invention can be useful as a raw material for functional cosmetics, medicines, and foods for preventing hair loss or improving hair growth. Further, since the composition of the present invention is a natural material, it is safe in spite of the long-term use thereof.

Abstract: The present invention relates to a composition for protecting human skin keratinocytes from ultraviolet rays, wherein the composition comprises 3-bromo-4,5-dihydroxybenzaldehyde (BDB).
