    Abstract: An apparatus and a method for managing traffic by using a VID(VLAN(Virtual LAN) Identification) in an EPON(Ethernet Passive Optical Network) are provided to allow a general commercialized switch or router to smoothly perform traffic management for numerous subscribers and subscriber services. A MAC lookup table(15) matches VIDs to be used within an EPON by MAC address and managing them. The second service classifying module(55) classifies a VID service class of the uplink packet. The second service control module(60) requests a service according to the classified VID service class in case of an uplink transmission flow.
