Abstract: The invention relates to a method for producing water-swellable hydrophilic polymers by neutralising the acid hydrogel with a degree of neutralisation o f 0 40 mol. % to a final degree of neutralisation of 60 85 mol. % by mixing wi th a neutralising agent in an opener using a system consisting of a screw, a rotating blade, a restricted flow area and a breaker plate, the capacity of the opener being 1000 to 6000 Wh/m3, the hydrogel being guided through an ar ea with an energy dissipation density of 400 to 800 W/l mixing volume, the average residence time of the hydrogel in the opener being 5 to 30 seconds, and the free perforated surface of the breaker plate being 20 to 40 %.

Abstract: Partículas superabsorbentes que comprenden: (i) alrededor de 50 a 95% en peso de un polímero superabsorbente; y (ii) alrededor de 5 a 50% en peso de una arcilla, cuyas partículas son preparadas por un método que comprende las etapas de: (a) polimerizar un monómero sin neutralizar capaz de proporcionar un polímero superabsorbente en presencia de un monómero de reticulación interna, para formar un hidrogel de polímero superabsorbente; (b) moler el hidrogel de polímero superabsorbente para formar partículas de hidrogel de polímero superabsorbente; (c) mezclar una arcilla con las partículas de hidrogel de polímero superabsorbente para formar partículas de hidrogel de polímero superabsorbente-arcilla; (d) neutralizar entonces las partículas de hidrogel de polímero superabsorbente-arcilla por adición de una cantidad suficiente de un agente neutralizante para neutralizar las partículas de hidrogel en un 50 a 100% en peso; y (e) secar las partículas de hidrogel de polímero superabsorbente-arcilla neutralizadas de la etapa (d) para proporcionar las partículas superabsorbentes.

The clay is added to SAP particles during surface crosslinking to substantially reduce the generation, and recycling, of SAP fines, and to provide SAP particles having an improved acquisition rate of fluids and an improved permeability of a fluid through the swollen SAP particles. Diaper cores and absorbent articles containing the surface crosslinked SAP particles also are disclosed.

Abstract: The invention relates to non-water soluble hydrogels which can swell in water, and which are coated with steric or electrostatic spacers. Before being coated, the hydrogels comprise the following characteristics: absorbency under load (AUL) (0.7 psi) of at least 20 g/g, and gel strength of at least 1600 Pa. The coated hydrogels preferably have the following characteristics: centrifuge retention capacity (CRC) of at least 24 g/g, saline flow conductivity (SFC) of at least 30 x 10 cm s/g, and free swell rate (FSR) of at least 0.15 g/g s and/or a maximum vortex time of 160 s.
