Various compounds are mentioned. In the examples potassium iodide and the copper salt of tetramethylene-bis (iminophenylacetic acid) is incorporated during the polymerization of nylon 6 or 66/6 of K-values from 62 to 86.

Abstract: 1,158,270. Polyesterurethanes. BADISCHE ANILIN- & SODA-FABRIK A.G. 2 Dec., 1966 [4 Dec., 1965], No. 54078/66. Heading C3R. Polyesterurethanes are prepared by reacting an hydroxyl group containing polyester of M.W. 500 to 5,000 which has been prepared by reacting adipic acid with a mixture of 45 to 90% by weight of 1,6-hexanediol and 10 to 55% by weight of 2,2,4-trimethylpentanediol -1,3, first with a stoichiometric excess of an organic polyisocyanate followed by reaction with a chain extender which is preferably a diamine, hydrazine, a hydrazide or a glycol. If desired the reactions are carried out in the presence of an inert polar solvent such as dimethylformamide, dimethylacetamide, tetramethylurea or dimethyl sulphoxide. Up to 50% by weight of 2,2,4-trimethylpentanediol-1,3 may be replaced by 2,2-dimethylhexanediol-1,3. Suitable polyisocyanates are 4,4 1 -diphenylmethane diisocyanate; 2,4-toluylene diisocyanate; p-phenylene diisocyanate; 1,5-naphthylene diisocyanate; 1,6-hexane diisocyanate and 4,4 1 -diphenyl (thio) ether diisocyanates. The chain extenders may be ethylene diamine; propylene diamine; n-xylylene diamine; hydrazine; carbodihydrazide; adipodihydrazide; ethylene glycol and 1,4-butane diol. The resulting polymers may be used in the production of fibres or films. The preparation of polyesters from adipic acid and a diol mixture of 45 to 90% by weight of hexanediol-1,6 and 10 to 55% by weight of 2,2,4-trimethylpentanediol- 1,3 is described in the examples. In Example 1, the ratio of hexanediol-1,6 to 2,2,4-trimethylpentanediol-1,3 is 76À4: 23À6 and in Example 2 86À6: 13À4.

In the production of magnetic recording media by applying a suspension of ferromagnetic powder in a solution of a binder on to a backing, the binder comprises a mixture of a polyamide and a monomer having at least two double bonds, which is polymerized in situ by irradiation, heat, or ozone. The monomer is preferably acrylic, and may be N,N 1 -methylene, ethylene, trimethylene, hexamethylene, or p,p-diaminocyclohexylmethane, -bis-acrylamide or -methacrylamide; or an acrylate or methacrylate of glycol, propylene glycol, butanediol, pentanediol, hexanediol, glycerol, trimethylol propane, pentaerythritol, or cyclic polyols. Suitable polyamides, solvents, initiators, plasticizers, and bases are listed. Polymerization may be effected (before, during, or after drying) with I.R., visible, or U.V. radiation, heated rollers, dryers, α, #, or γ rays, passage of O 3 produced by electric discharge. Monomers having one double bond may also be incorporated with the binder. The wt. ratio of powder: binder may be 2: 1 to 6: 1, and the powder may be Fe 3 O 4 , acicular γ- Fe 2 O 3 , or Fe.

[Also in Division G2] A photographic process for the production of printing plates comprises image-wise exposing a photo-polymerizable material in the form of a plate or sheet and containing 80 to 40% by weight of a synthetic linear polyamide, 0À5 to 15% by weight based on the polyamide of benzene-sulphonic acid n-butylamide, 20-60% by weight of monomer(s) containing at least one monomer having at least two polymerizable double bonds and optionally at least one monomer with a single double bond, the single double-bond monomer content being up to 40% of the total monomer content, and a photo-initiator (e.g. benzoin methyl ether) and then developing the exposed material. A polymerization inhibitor may also be present in the composition of the layer. Exemplified monomers with at least two double bonds are alkylene and arylene bisacrylamides; 4,4 1 -bis-(acryloylamino cyclohexyl)-methane and triallyl cyanurate, while styrene, maleic anhydride, methyl methacrylate and butane diol-(1,4)-monoacrylate are exemplified as monomers with single double bonds.

Aqueous dispersions of vinyl ester polymers are prepared by polymerizing a vinyl ester of a linear or branched monocarboxylic acid having 2 to 18 carbon atoms, alone or with up to 35% by weight on the amount of monomers of at least one ester of acrylic acid and/or methacrylic acid with an alcohol containing one to eight carbon atoms and/or with up to 10% by weight on the amount of monomers of at least one other copolymerizable ethylenically unsaturated compound in an aqueous medium in the presence of a catalyst and 0À5 to 6% by weight on the amount of monomers of an acrylamide copolymer prepared in aqueous solution from 15 to 82% by weight of acrylamide, 15 to 82% by weight of methacrylamide, 3 to 30% by weight of acrylic acid and/or methacrylic acid and 0 to 12% by weight of at least one other ethylenically unsaturated compound, and having a K value of at least 50, and adding 0À2 to 5% by weight on the amount of monomers of a nonionic and/or anion-active polyalkylene oxide derivative. In examples are used: a sulphonated adduct of ethylene oxide and isooctylphenol, an adduct of ethylene oxide and castor oil, dimethyl phthalate, vinyl propionate, potassium persulphate, ammonia, tertiary-butyl acrylate, acrylic acid, sodium salt of a paraffin sulphonic acid, dibutyl phthalate, ethenoxylated coconut oil fatty acid alcohol, ethenoxylated polypropylene oxide and acrylamide.
