    Abstract: A method of carrying out an authentication check in a mobile telephone system in which an authentic base station (BS) serves a plurality of mobile stations (MSl-MSn). It is earlier known to carry out a unidirectional check from the base station (BS) to a calling mobile station (MSk). A false base station (BSf) is able, in this way, to carry out a false authentication check, by collecting a number of so-called RAND-Response pairs. In order to avoid this, there is introduced a further unidirectional authentication check, base station-mobile station, and also an authentication check from the mobile station to the base station. According to one embodiment of the method, the unidirectional check is excluded and only the bidirectional authentication check is carried out.

    Abstract: A phase-locked loop having a variable bandwidth and comprising a controlled oscillator, a phase comparison device, two current generating devices (21-22, 25-26) and a loop filter (23-24). Each of the current generating devices is intended to produce a positive or a negative pulsed current in response to signals from the phase comparison device. The outputs of the current generating devices are each connected to a respective point in the loop filter. The loop bandwidth can be varied continuously while maintaining a desired damping factor, by increasing the amplitude of the currents from each of the current generating devices (21-22, 25-26) when the bandwidth is to be increased, and vice versa.

    Abstract: A method and apparatus described herein uses a mobility server to supplement the mobility management operations of a conventional mobile switching circuit (MSC). The mobility server receives mobility messages from a wireless terminal, and updates a location register associated with the MSC responsive to the received mobility messages. According to one exemplary embodiment, the mobility server has a pre-determined network address, such as a phone number, IP address, etc. The wireless terminal sends the mobility messages as user-plane messages to the pre-determined network address over a traffic data channel. In one exemplary embodiment, the mobility messages indicate the imminent loss of usable base station signals at an identified wireless terminal. For this embodiment, the mobility server may identify a satellite beam associated with the wireless terminal's location based on the received mobility messages, and update the location register accordingly.
