Disclosed is an apparatus and method for providing a broadcasting service in a single frequency broadcasting network, and a system thereof. The apparatus for receiving broadcasting signals includes an RF receiver configured to receive an RF broadcasting signal having identification information to identify a broadcasting signal transmitter and down-convert the received RF broadcasting signal; a reception characteristic measurer configured to measure reception characteristics of the RF broadcasting signal based on the identification information and generate reception characteristic information; and a reception characteristic transmitter configured to transmit the reception characteristic information to a broadcasting system.

Provided is a metadata structure for storing and reproducing stereoscopic data and a method for storing a stereoscopic content file based on the metadata structure. The stereoscopic content file storing method includes storing streams of the stereoscopic contents; and, when the stereoscopic content has more than two elementary streams, storing information for dividing the elementary streams into a main track and a supplementary track.

Provided are encoding and decoding methods for a single-view video or a multi-view video and apparatusus thereof. The multi-view encoding method includes performing motion and disparity estimation based on a base image, a supplementary image, and a reference image, generating residual data using the reference image and the motion and disparity estimated data, down sampling the residual data, and transforming and guantizing the down sampled residual data using a discrete cosine transformation (DCT) method.

Provided is an on-channel repeater, which removes feedback signals caused due to low isolation of transmission/reception antennas and a method thereof. The on-channel repeater includes : a receiver for receiving radio frequency (RF) signals and converting them into baseband signals; a subtractor for subtracting replicas of feedback signals from the baseband signals to thereby produce signals whose feedback signals are primarily removed; a demodulator for demodulating the signals which include the remaining feedback signals; an equalizer for equalizing the demodulated signals to thereby produce equalized signals; a transmitter for modulating the equalized signals to thereby produce modulated signals, converting the modulated signals into RF signals, and transmitting the RF signals in the air; a down-converter for down-converting the RF signals into baseband signals; and a replica generator for calculating the replicas based on the baseband signals of the down- converter and the signals without feedback signals of the subtractor, and feeding back them to the subtractor.

A transmission device and receiving device for providing high-quality multimedia services in a digital multimedia broadcasting (DMB) transmission system is provided. The transmission device separates input multimedia contents into a base layer elementary stream and an enhancement layer elementary stream, encodes the base layer elementary stream and the enhancement layer elementary stream, transforms the base layer elementary stream and the enhancement layer elementary stream into a base layer SL packet and an enhancement layer SL packet, transforms the base layer SL packet and the enhancement layer SL packet into a base layer PES packet and an enhancement layer PES packet, and multiplexes the base layer PES packet and the enhancement layer PES packet according to a base layer elementary stream and an enhancement layer elementary stream and outputs a base layer TS packet and an enhancement layer TS packet.

Provided is an apparatus and method for a digital multimedia broadcasting (DMB) service. The DMB transmitter includes a base layer transmission processor for encoding base layer stream, an enhancement layer transmission processor for encoding enhancement layer stream, and a hierarchical transmitter for transmitting the base layer stream and the enhancement layer stream by allocating a predetermined bit value through encoding the base layer stream outputted from the base layer transmission processor and the enhancement layer stream outputted from the enhancement layer transmission processor based on gray coding and performing hierarchical symbol mapping.

Provided are metadata that is newly required to transmit contents containing stereoscopic images and motion pictures that are captured by a stereo camera or a computer graphic/animation making program or reproduce the contents after storing the same. The metadata is defined such that the metadata is contained in a structure of an MPEG-4 initial object descriptor, an object descriptor, and an ES-descriptor. The contents containing the stereoscopic images and motion pictures can be transferred based on MPEG-4 systems. In addition, the contents can be stored based on an MP-4 file and effectively reproduced.

A method and apparatus for providing 3D still image service in a specific time interval during audio-visual service of digital broadcast are provided. The method includes receiving a reference image and a 3D supplement image, which construct a 3D still image, through a data channel or a video channel together with a 2D image; restoring the reference image and the 3D supplement image to the 3D still image; and displaying the 3D still image in a specific interval during digital audio-visual broadcast using the 2D image according to display information which includes a play time and a play mode.

A transmission device for providing a Traffic and Travel Information (TTI) data service related to a video service in digital broadcasting, the transmission device including: an encoding unit for a specific scene of a video to be broadcasted, TTI data related to a specific scene, and link data for linking the specific scene with the TTI data; and a broadcasting stream creating unit for creating a transmission stream in conformity to a broadcasting standard based on the video data, the TTI data, and the encoded and outputted link data.
