A composition comprising: (A) a coprecipitate consisting essentially of: (a) a galactomannan, with (b) a glucomannan; and (B) optinally, a gelling agent admixed with the formed coprecipitate. Preferably, the galactomannan is locust bean gum, the glucomannan is derived from konjac, and the gelling agent is carrageenan. In another embodiment, this invention comprises a method for preparing a coprecipitate of a galactomannan with a glucomannan, such method comprising: (A) mixing a galactomannan with an aqueous medium (optionally accompanied by heat and/or agitation) to form a galactomannan sol; (B) mixing a glucomannan in similar manner with the same or another volume of the aqueous medium to form a glucomannansol; (C) comixing the galactomannan sol and glucomannan sol (if they were initially mixed separately); (D) optionally clarifying the galactomannan sol, the glucomannan sol, or their comixture; (E) coprecipitating the comixed sols by the addition of an organic solvent that is miscible with the aqueous medium; (F) separating the coprecipitate from the aqueous medium; (G) drying the coprecipitate, and (H) optionally grinding the dried coprecipitate to a finer powder. The inventive compositions are useful as the base for many food and industrial products such as: a gelled or thickened food; a pourable salad dressing; a liquid food or food additive; a food spread such as a margarine or cheese spread; a water dessert gel; a mayonnaise; a frozen dessert; a cosmetic or pharmaceutical liquid, cream or lotion excipient; a dental care product; an air freshener gel; a de-icing fluid; and the like.

In a regenerable collective protection system the turbine of an air cycle machine is driven by a portion of the clean air output of a pressure swing adsorber bed pair in the system. The beds in the pair are used alternately to cleanse contaminated air. They are then alternately purged of contaminant products. Valves are used to direct these alternate operations. The valve closures cause overpressures in the clean air output. The overpressures are predictable in relation to the valve acutation sequence and are removed by coordinating operation of a surge air bleed valve in the clean air output with valve actuation in the pressure swing adsorber bed pair.

A composition and method for bioremediating a soil contaminated with polynuclear aromatic hydrocarbon or hydrocarbon derived from petroleum. The composition contains a substoichiometric amount of calcium peroxide, a nutrient source for sustaining microbial growth and a buffer as needed. According to the method the composition or the components of the composition are administered to contaminated soil to shift the microbial population and/or enzyme production in a beneficial manner for either aerobic or mixed aerobic/anaerobic bioremediation. Transport of the actives is improved through water utilization.

A process for producing alkali metal dispersions by agitating a mixture of molten alkali metal in a hydrocarbon oil at dispersion speeds by contacting the dispersed alkali metal with up to a 3 weight percent anhydrous carbon dioxide through the agitating dispersion for at least 1 minute. The process produces lithium dispersions having a dispersion coating containing lithium carbonate, lithium oxide or hydroxide and a hydrocarbon. The coated lithium powders can be dried and are stable to ambient atmosphere for periods up to about an hour. Dried lithium powders are useful as reactants in preparing a variety of organolithium products, e.g. n-butyl-lithium.

A process to manufacture and coat a sodium carbonate perhydrate containing 10.5 % to 14 % active oxygen which is stable in a non-phosphate detergent composition and which has a bulk density of from 900 to 1,050 kg/m3. Anhydrous sodium carbonate with a pore volume of at least 0.29 ml/g is contacted with 50 % to 75 % by weight hydrogen peroxide in the presence of 1-hydroxyethylidene-1,1-diphosphonic acid and water is evaporated at a rate to maintain a dry reaction mixture. The product is coated by sparging sodium borosilicate at a rate to avoid moistening the particles.
