    Abstract: PURPOSE:To easily execute exact drive not to excess turn-on or turn-on miss by extending the voltage margin of drive after suppressing the luminance reduction of display.     Abstract: PURPOSE:To provide a multicolor segment display by alternately arraying first and second phosphors having mutually different luminescent colors in segments, and emitting light with one side or both of these phosphors, and making one color of three colors selectable, in producing a plasma display panel of a segment display method. CONSTITUTION:Seven segments SE are arranged in a 8-shaped state on a display picture plane, and the respective segments SE are demarcated into first and second luminous regions E1 and E2 aligned in one direction with partition walls 19 and 29. A discharge cell C1 is defined with electrically light-transmitted snake-like electrodes X and Xb and a first comb teeth-like electrode Y1 between seven segments SE in the region E1, and a cell C2 is demarcated similarly with the electrodes X and Xb and a second electrode Y2 in the region E2. Thus the region E1 is light-emitted with a phosphor 18G when electric discharge is caused in only the cell C1, and the region E2 is light-emitted with a phosphor 18R when electric discharge occurs in only the cell C2. A mixed color is light- emitted when the cells C1 and C2 are discharged concurrently.

    Abstract: PURPOSE:To enhance display brightness and visual confirmability by a pair of electrode discharging in an electric discharge area (ES), which includes a light emission area (EH) provided with a fluorescent material and expands outside the EH. CONSTITUTION:Belt-shaped electric discharge parts 23a, 24a face one another and determins their lengths and numbers so that an electric discharge area ES may include an area EH and its outside. That is, the electric discharge part 23a, 24a, are installed so that the area ES may be about 1.5 times as large as the area EH in diameter. In order to display a PDP1, a prescribed voltage is applied across electrodes 23, 24, to induce an electric discharge in the area ES so as to produce ultravioled rays UV, which excite a fluorescent material 18 for light emission. In this case, the ultraviolet rays UV are in part diverged outside the area EH, but other ultraviolet rays are produced on the periphery of the area ES and applied to the fluorescent material 18 to compensate for the divergence loss. This increases the ultraviolet rays applied to the area EH to enhance the brightness of the area EH.
