SOLUTION: In the half-tone display method in a display method in which a display screen is constructed of a plurality of cells, data displayed in each cell is rewritten for every frame, and luminance of each cell is decided on the basis of a light quantity radiated from the cell during one frame equivalent duration, one frame is divided into a plurality of subframes, and a subframe radiating light and a subframe radiating no light are combined together so as to indicate a half tone. In this case, the subframes whose luminances satisfy a relationship Nn=Nn-1+Nn-2 are provided when luminances of a plurality of the subframes are Nn, Nn-1, Nn-2,..., N1 in the luminance order from the most intensity one.

Correction values obtained by dividing the delay time from a leading subframe in the frame by a frame cycle are calculated in a motion calculating means 7 and then motion amounts for every subframe are calculated. Then, a frame interpolation means 10 generates new data in which display positions are moved every subframe to a motion display means 9 moving display data positions by the set values of an image display position setting means 8 setting displays from the calculated motion amounts and then display operations are executed based on display data for every subframe.

And in the case that the cancel pulse is outputted after a sustained pulse is outputted as to an X1 electrode driving waveform, the output end of the driving circuit for the X1 electrode is made to be in the high impedance state by the ENA signal when the cancel pulse is outputted, and output of the driving circuit for an X2 electrode is made to be in a GND state. Thus, the charging current to the interline electrostatic capacity is prevented.

    Abstract: PURPOSE:To reduce the power consumption at the time of a high display rate without decreasing the easiness of seeing a display by varying the alternation rate of a high and a low contrast image plane at the time of the high display rate with the display rate signal of a plasma display panel (PDP) based upon an external gradation control signal. CONSTITUTION:A display rate recognition part 4 recognizes the display rate of the PDP according to the external gradation control signal 2 and outputs the display rate signal 3 to a display control part 6. Then the control part 6 generates a display control signal 5 for varying the alternation rate of the high contrast image plane and low contrast image plane to less than one vertical period at the time of the high display rate and outputs the signal to a PDP driving part 7. Consequently, the ratio of the high contrast image plane decreases at the time of the high display rate and the number of light pulses is decreased to reduce the power consumption to half. An intermediate and a low gradation brightness image plane, on the other hand, are controlled so that the number of light pulses does not decrease and the power consumption at the time of the high display rate is reduced to half without decreasing the easiness of seeing the display.

In such a way, the number of object cells to which a discharge maintaining pulse is applied at the time of high display rate decreases and the power consumption quantity can be suppressed.

    Abstract: PURPOSE:To simplify the constitution of system hardware by switching a sustain mode to a write mode to change the display content of one image plane only at the time of changing the image of a display device. CONSTITUTION:An address line Ax of an EPROM 4 is changed from a low level to a high level so that the write data is selected only when a W.END signal indicating the end of the data feeding is supplied by a driving control signal generating circuit 5, i.e., only when the image of the display device is to be changed. The sustain mode is set and the same display content is continuously displayed by utilizing the memory function of the display device so that the image of the display device is maintained if there is no need for changing the image of the display device. The need for display control circuits such as video RAM, refresh counter and multiplexer is thereby eliminated and the constitution of the system hardware is simplified.
