The method includes forming a body portion defining an inner region and an outer region, forming at least one reinforcing feature concurrently with the forming of the body portion, the at least one reinforcing feature extending at least partially along the body portion, and forming an aperture in the body portion, the aperture fluidly connecting the inner region to the outer region. The forming the body portion, forming the aperture, and forming the at least one reinforcing feature comprises additive manufacturing.
Abstract:
A rotating component for a turbomachine including a body having an outer surface, at least one groove formed in the outer surface, and a strip of material at least partially inserted into and overlying the groove. The strip of material is thermally bonded to the body overlying the groove to form a passageway. The strip of material having a finished outer surface opposite the groove is substantially coincident with the corresponding outer surface of the body prior to formation of the groove.
Abstract:
Components are disclosed which include a first component section and a second component section joined to form a hollow structure defining a plenum having an interior surface, wherein the component sections each include mating ridges joined together along the length of the plenum, and a corrosion-resistant cladding layer including a corrosion-resistant material overlaying the interior surface of the plenum. In one embodiment, the component is a gas turbine combustor fuel manifold. A method of forming the components includes applying corrosion-resistant segments including a corrosion-resistant material to each of the surfaces of the component sections, and joining the component sections to form the component, wherein joining the component sections includes fusing the corrosion-resistant segments into the corrosion-resistant cladding layer, and joining the mating ridges of the component sections.

The method includes providing a metallic powder, heating the metallic powder to a temperature sufficient to joint at least a portion of the metallic powder to form an initial layer, sequentially forming additional layers in a build direction by providing a distributed layer of the metallic powder over the initial layer and heating the distributed layer of the metallic powder, repeating the steps of sequentially forming the additional layers in the build direction to form a portion of the article having a hollow space formed in the build direction, and forming an overhang feature extending into the hollow space. The article includes an article formed by the method described herein.
Abstract:
An article and a method for making shaped cooling holes in an article are provided. The method includes the steps of providing a metal alloy powder; forming an initial layer with the metal alloy powder, the initial layer having a preselected thickness and a preselected shape, the preselected shape including at least one aperture; sequentially forming an additional layer over the initial layer with the metal alloy powder, the additional layer having a second preselected thickness and a second preselected shape, the second preselected shape including at least one aperture corresponding to the at least one aperture in the initial layer; and joining the additional layer to the initial layer, forming a structure having a predetermined thickness, a predetermined shape, and at least one aperture having a predetermined profile. The structure is attached to a substrate to make the article.

The casting method includes providing a base material in a mold, directing a fluid material into the mold, and solidifying the base material and the fluid material to form a cast article. The base material has a first density and first composition. The fluid material has a second density and a second composition. The first density differs from the second density, the first composition differs from the second composition, or the first density differs from the second density and the first composition differs from the second composition. The cast article includes a first material solidification from the base material, and a second material solidification from the fluid material. The casting system includes a mold for containing a base material and an input configuration, with flow control feature, for directing a fluid material into the mold containing the base material.
