Abstract: STABILIZED RED PHOSPHORUS The invention provides stabilized pulverulent red phosphorus comprising a homogeneous blend of red phosphorus particles with a size of at most about 2 mm, aluminum hydroxide and a further metal hydroxide as oxidation stabilizers, wherein the metal hydroxide is lead hydroxide. The homogeneous blend contains aluminum hydroxide and lead hydroxide in a total proportion of about 0.1 to 6 weight%, based on the quantity of red phosphorus, the aluminum hydroxide and lead hydroxide, calculated as Al2O3 to PbO, being used in a quantitative ratio of about 0.5 to 2.0.

Abstract: PRODUCTION AND USE OF QUATERNARY PHOSPHONIUM HALIDES Production of quaternary phosphonium halides of the general formula: ¢R1R2R3R4P!X, in which R1, R2, R3 and R4 stand for identical or different alkyl groups having from 1 to 4 carbon atoms and X stands for halogen, especially for chlorine or bromine. The compounds are more especially made by flowing hydrogen phosphide or a primary phosphine R1PH2 or secondary phosphine R1R2PH or tertiary phosphine R1R2R3P and an alkyl halide R4X in a molar ratio from 0.02 to 10, at a temperature from 100 to 500.degree.C, under a pressure of up to 10 atmospheres gauge and for a period from 0.5 to 500 seconds over a catalyst and separating the resulting quaternary phosphonium halides from the reaction gas. The halides so made are used for making trialkylphosphine oxides and trialkylphosphines.

Abstract: PRODUCTION OF PHOSPHORUS-CONTAINING ESTERS Production of phosphorus-containing esters of the general formula: in which X stands for an alkyl group having from 1 to 3 carbon atoms, an aryl group or an alkoxy group having from 1 to 6 carbon atoms, Y stands for an alkoxy group having from 1 to 6 carbon atoms, and Z stands for a hydrogen atom, an alkyl group having from 1 to 3 carbon atoms, an aryl group or an alkoxy group having from 1 to 6 carbon atoms. The esters are produced by reacting one or more phosphorus halides of the general formula: in which A and B stand independently from one another, for a chlorine or bromine atom, an alkyl group havingfrom 1 to 3 carbon atoms or an aryl group, C stands for a chlorine or bromine atom and D stands for a free pair of electrons or an oxygen atom, with aliphatic alcohols having from 1 to 6 carbon atoms. More particularly the phosphorus halide(s) and the aliphatic alcohol are heated to boiling in a reaction zone, at temperatures within the range 50 and 200.degree.C, the resulting hydrogen halide and alcohol in excess are passed to the upper portion of the reaction zone, condensed therein and removed therefrom; and resulting phosphorus-containing ester is delivered, if desired with an excess of aliphatic alcohol, to the lower portion of the reaction zone and removed therefrom.
