Abstract: Hypophosphites are made by the reaction of yellow phosphorus with hydroxides and/or carbonates of alkali metals and/or alkaline earth metals in the presence of water and organic solvents. To this end, the reaction is carried out with the use of solvents, which combine the property of dissolving phosphorus with immiscibility or substantial immiscibility with water and are liquid at the reaction temperature and, following completion of the reaction, the resulting aqueous phase having the hypophosphites therein is separated from the resulting nonaqueous phase, and the hypophosphites are isolated from the aqueous phase in conventional manner.

Abstract: Stabilized red phosphorus, and processes for the preparation thereof of the disclosure: In a stabilized, pulverulent red phosphorus comprising phosphorus particles having a maximum particle size of 2 mm whose surface is covered with a thin coating of an oxidation stabilizer, the oxidation stabilizer comprises tin oxide hydrate and an uncured epoxy resin. The red phosphorus stabilized in this way may additionally be covered by a thin coating of di-2-ethylhexyl phthalate as phlegmatizing agent. In addition, processes for the preparation of the stabilized and possibly additionally phlegmatized red phosphorus are described.

Abstract: HOE 85/H 027 JK FLAME-RETARDANT AGENTS STABLE TO HYDROLYSIS, BASED ON AMMONIUM POLYPHOSPHATE A microencapsulated flame-retardant agent stable to hydrolysis, based on free flowing, pulverulent ammonium polyphosphate of the general formula H(n-m)+2(NH4)mPnO3n+1 in which n stands for an integer with an average value of about 20 to 800 and the ratio of m/n is about 1, consists substantially of a) about 75 to 99.5 mass % ammonium polyphosphate and b) about 0.5 to 25 mass % of a reaction product of a polyisocyanate and water, the resulting polyurea encapsulating the individual ammonium polyphosphate particles.
