    Abstract: PURPOSE:To obtain a technique of transferring information signals which are small in demagnetization of a mother tape and with which good output is obtainable. CONSTITUTION:This magnetic recording medium is a second magnetic recording medium to which the information signals recorded on a first magnetic recording medium are transferred. This second magnetic recording medium is formed by providing the surface of a base with n (n is an integer of >=2) of magnetic metallic thin films. These magnetic metallic thin films are so constituted as to satisfy Bs1>Bs2>...>Bsn. Hc1p>(1.2)Hc2P>...>(1.2) HcnP. Hc1h>(1.5)Hc2h>...>(1.5) Hcnh when the saturation magnetic flux densities from the first magnetic film existing in a position furthest from the base of the magnetic films described above to the n-th magnetic film existing in a position nearest the base are successively designated as Bs1 to Bsn, the coercive forces in the longitudinal direction successively as Hc1p to Hcnp and the coercive force in the perpendicular direction successively as Hc1h to Hcnh.

    Abstract: PURPOSE:To increase the ratio of diamond bonds of a carbon film and to improve the function as a protective layer of a magnetic film by irradiating the carbon film with active energy in a stage for forming the carbon film. CONSTITUTION:A magnetic recording medium 1 provided with the Co magnetic film by depositing Co particles on a polyimide film by using an ordinal diagonal vapor deposition device is made to travel from a supply side roll 3a disposed in a vacuum vessel 2 of a microwave plasma CVD device to a take-up side roll 3b via a cooling can roller 4. A CVD device 5 is then operated to blow the plasma of a gaseous mixture composed of CH4 and H2 on the Co magnetic film of the magnetic recording medium 1 held in contact with the cooling can roller 4 along therewith, thereby forming the carbon film. The protective layer of the magnetic film of the magnetic recording medium is formed by irradiating the carbon film with UV rays of a wavelength 50nm at the time of forming the carbon film.

    Abstract: PURPOSE:To improve the running properties of a supporter and, further, form a metal thin film satisfactorily by a method wherein a mechanism which detects the sticking of the supporter to a can roll with a pressure sensor and remove the supporter from the can roll instantly is utilized. CONSTITUTION:A PET film 3 is paid off from a pay-off side roll 2a and wound around a cooling can roll 1. Magnetic metal 5 is deposited on the surface of the film 3 to form a magnetic thin film and the film 3 is taken up by a take-up side roll 2b through rotary rollers 12a and 12b. At that time, if the film 3 sticks to the roll 1 and a state shown by one-dot chain lines is produced, a pushing pressure from springs 13 with which the rollers 12a and 12b are made to butt against each other is detected by a pressure sensor 14. With this detection, a force in the recovery direction is applied to the rollers 12a and 12b instantly and the rollers 12a and 12b push the film 3 to remove the tape 3 from the roll 1 and the initial state is recovered. With this constitution, the running properties of the film 3 can be improved and the metal thin film can be formed satisfactorily.

    Abstract: PURPOSE:To produce a metallic thin film body with the conductivity and traveling property improved and without any ugly warp by depositing a metallic material on a substrate in a vacuum vessel and then roughening the surface of the deposited film. CONSTITUTION:A vacuum vessel 1 is evacuated to a specified vacuum, a film 4 having a metallic magnetic film on one side is supplied from a feed roll 3a to a cooling can roll 2 so that the magnetic film is abutted on the roll 2, a nonmagnetic metal in a crucible 5 is vaporized by an electron gun 6, and air is supplied from a nozzle 8 to form a back coat film on the opposite surface of the film 4. The film is then supplied to a special chamber, the back coat surface is roughened with the grinding tape of a roughening means 10 to control the Ra to 5-30nm and the Rz to 80-400nm, then the dust on the roughened back coat surface is wiped off with the cleaning tape of a cleaning means 11, and the film is wound on a winding roll 3b. A metallic thin film body having a good-traveling property and excellent in antistatic effect is obtained by this way.

    Abstract: PURPOSE:To form a metallic thin film having a uniform characteristic with a small amt. of power in good yield at the time of vapor-depositing a magnetic material on the surface of a nonmagnetic film in a vacuum vessel to produce a magnetic recording medium by using a field-emission electron beam to heat the magnetic material. CONSTITUTION:A film 3 of polyethylene terephthalate(PET) is rewound from a roll 2a in a vacuum vessel 8, brought into contact with a cooling can roll 1, wound on a roll 2b and traveled. A magnetic material 6 such as Fe, Co and Ni in a crucible 5 is heated by electron beams from an electron gun 7, melted and vaporized, and the vapor is deposited on the part on the roll 1 open to a shielding plate 4 to produce a magnetic recording medium. A cold- cathode field emission electron gun is used as the gun 7 in this case, hence the electron beams are hardly scattered, the scattered beams are not hit on the traveling film 3, and a uniform thin film of the magnetic material is efficiently formed on the substrate film 3 without deteriorating the traveling property of the film 3.

    Abstract: PURPOSE:To produce a metallic thin film-type magnetic recording medium a high yield by depositing a metallic thin film on a substrate and then removing the dust depositing on the surface before the film is wound. CONSTITUTION:A nonmagnetic substrate 3 such as a long-sized polyester film is rewound from a feed roll 2a and traveled along a cooling can roll 1 in a vacuum vessel 8 provided with a deposition preventive sheet 4. Meanwhile, a magnetic metal 6 such as Fe in a crucible 5 is melted and vaporized by an electron beam from an electron gun 7, and the vaporized particle is deposited on the substrate 3 to form a metallic thin film. The metallic thin film-type magnetic recording medium obtd. wound on a winding roll 2b. In this case, the rotatable rolls 9a and 9b set in trap chambers 10a and 10b and coated with a dielectric are slid on both sides of the substrate before the medium is wound, to charge the substrate by a power source. Consequently, the dust depositing on the substrate 3 is removed and stripped with the pieces for stripping 11a and 11b.

    Abstract: PURPOSE:To trap a scattered electron, prevent a substrate from being charged and, excellently form a thin film by depositing a particle vaporized by the irradiation with a beam on the substrate surface and providing a conductive member along the path of the irradiating electron. CONSTITUTION:A substrate 3 consisting of a long-sized nonconductive film touched ground a cooling-can roll 1 is traveled between a feed roll 2a and a winding roll 2b. Meanwhile, a magnetic metal 7 in a crucible 6 is irradiated with an electron beam from an electron gun 8 and vaporized. The vaporized particle is deposited on the substrate 3 to form a thin film of the metal, etc. In this film forming device, a conductive member 10 of Pt, etc., is provided along the path of the beam irradiating the metal 7 from the gun 8. The member 10 is coiled, for example, and the beam is traveled through the coil. The member is further grounded or preferably made coolable. Consequently, the electron scattered from the electron beam is efficiently trapped with the member 10.

    Abstract: PURPOSE:To eliminate wrinkles on a member to be vapor-deposited and to prevent vapor deposition unevenness by forming a groove orthogonally intersecting with a running direction of the member to be vapor-deposited on a surface of a can roll, arranging a wrinkle elimination member in the groove and making the end surface abut on the member to be vapor-deposited. CONSTITUTION:The groove 14 orthogonally intersecting with a running direction of a tape 5 and arriving at a surface of a hollow shaft 13 is provided on the surface of the can roll 8. The wrinkle elimination member 15 is arranged in the groove 14 retractablly, and the member 15 is pressed to the hollow shaft 13 side by a spring in a recessed part 21 on the inner surface of the groove 14. The hollow shaft 13 is provided with a projecting part 25 swelling in a hill shape on the surface, and when the can roll 8 is rotated on the hollow shaft 13, the member 15 is rotated also, and when the leg part 18 of the member 15 arrives at the projecting part 25, the leg part 18 runs on the projecting part 25. At this time, the end surface 16 of the member 15 is projected from the surface of the can roll 8, and the wrinkles of the tape 5 is eliminated.

    Abstract: PURPOSE:To prevent back-splashing of a molten liquid and to form a proper vapor deposition film on a material to be treated by spraying inert gas to a part of the liquid surface in a molten liquid tank and supplying a magnetic material to an area where the molten liquid has high viscosity. CONSTITUTION:When magnetic metal 10 in a pellet state is to be supplied in a fusing tank 9 accompanied with vaporization of the magnetic metal, inert gas is sprayed through a supply tube 13 to decrease temp. of the liquid surface near the tube 13 and to form an area 15 having high viscosity. Then the metal 10 is supplied from a material carrying rail 16 to the tank 9 and dropped in the area 15. Because the area 15 has high viscosity, no splashing is caused when the metal is dropped. Further, the area 15 has rather low temp., abnormal bumping is prevented when the metal 10 is dropped.

    Abstract: PURPOSE:To easily exchange shielding plates and to form a proper vapor deposition film by stacking shielding plates at a specified distance in the vertical direction and separately rotating plates to control the vapor deposition region of a magnetic material vapor to the material to be treated. CONSTITUTION:Shielding means 11 are stacked in the vertical direction with spacers and supported by a supporting member 17 so that the shielding plates can be rotated. When a magnetic metal 10 is irradiated with electron beams from an electron gun 12, the metal 10 is molten and vaporized. The tape 5 released from a releasing roll 6 and enters in the vaporizing zone is coated with the magnetic metal by vapor deposition. Thus, a magnetic film is formed on the tape, which is wound round a winding roll 7. After a specified period when vapor particles of the metal 10 are deposited on the shielding plate 11, one shielding plate is rotated to be exchanged with another shielding plate stacked. Thereby, the deposited matter is not dropped and contamination of the vacuum chamber is prevented.
