Abstract: PURPOSE:To produce the title nonyellowing polyisocyanate, by polymerizing a diisocyanate in the presence of a tert. amine and an epoxide compound and stopping the polymerization reaction by the addition of a catalyst poison. CONSTITUTION:A diisocyanate (e.g., 2,4-tolylene diisocyanate/2,6-tolylene diisocyanate mixture) is polymerized at 10 deg.C or below in the presence of 0.05-1.0wt.% trimerization catalyst comprising a tert. amine [e.g., N,N',N''-tris(dimethylaminopropyl)-hexahydro-Sym-triazine] and 0.5-2.0pts.wt., per pt.wt. said tert. amine, epoxide compound (e.g., bisphenol A diglycidyl ether) until the residual diisocyanate content is decreased to 1wt.% or below based on the resin content. 1.0-1.5pts.wt., per pt.wt. said tert. amine, catalyst poison (e.g., acetic acid) is added to this reaction mixture to stop the polymerization reaction.
