    Abstract: PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To make an automatic vending machine thin by thinning a space for illuminating merchandise samples. SOLUTION: A transparent light transmission plate 106 is arranged on the front face of a merchandise sample 102. On the surface of the light transmission plate 106 on the side of the merchandise sample, a linear projecting structure 107 is formed. A fluorescent tube 104 is arranged on the end face of the light transmission plate 106. Light radiated from the fluorescent tube 104 and made incident from the end face to the light transmission plate 106 propagates while fully reflecting in the light transmission plate. The light reaching the side face of the linear projection 107 comes out from the light transmission plate 106 to become light for illuminating the merchandise sample.

    Abstract: PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To miniaturize a projection optical system constituting a display device by which a background existing behind a screen can be viewed through the screen. SOLUTION: A liquid crystal display element 103 is illuminated by a plate-like organic electric field light emitting element 104 arranged at the back of the element 103. A picture displayed on the element 103 is projected to a dichroic screen 101 by a projection lens 105. The screen 101 is provided with a dichroic filter layer 108 on a transparent base plate 107. The layer 108 reflects only the light of a wavelength band corresponding to the wavelength of the light radiated from the element 104 and transmits the light of other wavelength bands.

    Abstract: PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a plate lighting system which consumes low power, is front-end type, and has high visibility in either case of its lighting and non- lighting. SOLUTION: A reflector 3 is placed in a light-transmitting plate 1 such that the reflector 3 is diagonal to the flat plane of the light-transmitting plate, and a light source 2 is arranged at an end 4 of the plate. This lighting system is placed in front of a lightened object, emits a light beam to the light beam to the lightened object, and transmits the light reflected on the lightened object without diffracting much of the light. When the illumination is not lightened, the system transmits external light and the external light reflected on the lightened object without diffracting much of the light. The lighting system can use a fluorescent tube, a light emitting diode(LED), or a bulb as a light source, and therefore consuming power is easily reduced.

    Abstract: PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a front-mounted surface lighting device which is high in visibility in both a lighting ON and a light OFF state. SOLUTION: A light guide plate 1 which has unevenness 12 is arranged on the reflected and projection light surface side of a flat plate and a light source 2 is arranged on its end surface. A lighting device of this constitution is mounted in front of a lit body and has a function which projects a light beam on the lit body and transmits the light beam reflected by the lit body nearly without dispersing it. When lighting is OFF, external light and a light beam emitted by reflecting the external light by the lit body are transmitted nearly without being dispersed.

    Abstract: PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To guide the light from the rear of a fluorescent tube to a light guide plate by forming a reflecting mirror with reflecting surfaces having a cross sectional shape of a flattened involute curve and reflecting surfaces connected to expand the opening section of the reflecting mirror. SOLUTION: A reflecting mirror 11 is formed with reflecting surfaces 11a1, 11a2 and reflecting surfaces 11b1, 11b2. The reflecting surface 11b1 and the reflecting surface 11a1 are symmetrical with respect to the xz-plane, and the reflecting surface 11b2 and the reflecting surface 11a2, are symmetrical with respect to the xz-plane. The reflecting surface 11a1 is in the range that (x) is larger than the x-coordinate xc of a connection point Ca, i.e., x>=xc, and its shape is shown by the locus of x=(r)×cosθ+f(θ)×(r)×θ×sinθ, y=(r)×sinθ-f(θ)×(r)×θ×cosθ. The reflecting mirror 11 is formed with the reflecting surfaces having such a cross sectional shape and the reflecting surfaces connected to expand the opening section of the reflecting mirror 11, and the light from the rear of a fluorescent tube can be guided to a light guide plate.

    Abstract: PURPOSE:To make an image bright even when a high molecule dispersion type display is lighted with peripheral light and to improve visibility by arranging a lens which has positive power between the high molecule dispersion type liquid crystal display provided nearby the front focus of the lens and eyes. CONSTITUTION:This information display device provided between the transparent window 22 of sunvisor 20 and eyes 17 of a user has the lens 13 with the positive power and a reflecting mirror 12 arranged so that an image on the high molecule dispersion type liquid crystal display 11 can be seen when the gaze is turned about 25 deg. above the horizontal. Then the peripheral light 16 such as the sunshine becomes illumination light having a nearly uniform distribution through a light diffusion plate 10 to light the high molecule dispersion type liquid crystal display 11. On this display 11, time, etc., is displayed and the display is reflected by the reflecting mirror 12 and transmitted through the lens 13 and a protection plate 14 to reach the eyes 17 of the user. The high molecule dispersion type liquid crystal display 11 need not use a polarizing plate which absorbs much light and makes a bright display although the power consumption is low.

    Abstract: PURPOSE:To form ring band-shaped electrodes without any missing and to make image formation characteristics excellent by forming electrode lead-out lines on a different surface from the ring band-shaped electrodes. CONSTITUTION:On a transparent substrate 101, the electrode lead-out lines 102 are formed. Those electrode lead-out lines 102 are formed of transparent electrode films and a transparent insulating film 103 which is as thick as the electrode lead-out lines 102 are formed except at the pattern of the electrode lead-out lines 102. Then connection parts 104 for connecting the electrode lead- out lines 102 and ring band-shaped electrodes 106 are formed. The electrode lead--out lines 102 are connected to the ring band-shaped electrodes 106 through the connection parts 104. In this case, the ring band-shaped electrodes 106 and the electrode lead-out lines 102 and formed on different surfaces. Then the proper ring band-shaped electrode 106 is selected and applied with a voltage to vary the refractive index of liquid crystal to incident light, and thus a necessary phase distribution is generated to vary the focal length.

    Abstract: PURPOSE:To superimpose an image on an outside field over a look at the outside field by constituting an optical system which forms a virtual image at an infinite or finite distance and an optical system which composes one image of the virtual image and an image of the outside field so that they correspond to eyes. CONSTITUTION:An image displayed on an image output device 12R which uses a liquid crystal display device is passed through a lens 13R and then reflected by a half-mirror 14R arranged slantingly to the sight to enter the right eye 11R. The virtual image of a liquid crystal display device can be formed at an infinite or finite distance in the direction of the sight. Light 15R from the outside field is transmitted through the half-mirror 14R and enters the right eye 11R, so the image of the image output device 12R can be seen while superimposed on the image of the outside field. The image can be seen similarly with the left eye 11R. Thus, mutually different images are displayed on the two image output devices 12R and 12L respectively and the different images can be seen with both the eyes.
