Abstract: PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a floating type optical element to be used in an optical pickup or the like in which damage at the air lubricating surface and front edge of the slider may be reduced and damage at the boundary between the optical lens and slider may also be reduced. SOLUTION: There is provided a floating type optical element 25, comprising, in regard to an optical focusing means consisting of at least one optical lens 23, 23 to focus the optical beam from the light source 22 to the signal recording surface of an optical disc, an optical lens 22 which is the nearest to the optical disc and a slider 24 for holding a constant floating amount for the surface of the optical disc 11 with the air lubricating surface 24a in view of keeping the optical lens in the optical contact condition for the surface of the optical disc. This optical lens 22 is arranged within a through hole 26 formed in the direction orthogonal to the air lubricating surface for the slider.
