Abstract: PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a magnetic recording medium capable of suppressing deviation in an amount of floating when a floating slider travels over a servo zone while increasing a recording capacity without extending servo zone nor rendering the formation of the servo zones difficult. SOLUTION: A magnetic recording medium includes a plurality of servo zones 2 where a servo signal to be used for positioning a magnetic head, which performs recording and reproduction of signals, is pre-formed in the form of the concave and convex configuration. Circumferential interval between the adjacent servo zones 2, i.e., a width of a data zone 3, is set at a constant value over the whole surface of the magnetic recording medium, wherein the above- mentioned constant value is set to be equal to or less than a half of a length of a floating slider which floats and moves with the magnetic head mounted thereon.

Abstract: PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To obtain a magnetic disk having a transparent substrate provided with a contact region to which a head slider comes into contact by forming a pit train of a projecting type on a transparent substrate for a magnetic disk with a laser beam having a shorter wavelength than that of a visible light and adjusting height of a pit train with intensity of a laser beam. SOLUTION: For example, a transparent substrate for a magnetic disk made of resin are formed by injection formation, next, a pit 3c is formed in a CSS zone of this substrate for a magnetic disk using a laser beam irradiation device. In this case, a shape of the substrate for a magnetic disk in a disk type having an outside diameter of 65mm, an inside diameter of 20mm, and thickness of 1.2mm, an irradiation range of a laser beam is made 11-13mm of a diameter of a substrate for CCS. A shape of the formed pit 3c is circular as shown in Fig. (A), and a crater type in which peripheral part is swelled and the inside is pitted, its size is like that height is about 600nm, a diameter is 10-20μm, and a good CSS zone can be provided.

Abstract: PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To obtain a transparent magnetic disk and its magnetic disk device provided with a contact region to which a head slider comes into contact by forming an opaque film of a specific material on a transparent substrate, while forming a pit train of a projecting type. SOLUTION: A transparent substrate 3d for a magnetic disk of a magnetic disk 3 consists of resin or glass, an opaque film 3e formed on it by, for example, a sputter method is a carbon film or a metallic film. Further, a magnetic film 3f is surely formed on the substrate 3d for a magnetic disk. Next, a pit is formed in a CSS(Contact Start Stop) zone 3a of the substrate for a magnetic disk using a laser beam irradiation device. Height of a pit train is controlled by adjustment of depth of the opaque film 3e and intensity of a laser beam. Thereby, movement of a head slider from the CSS zone 3a to a data zone 3b can be performed without any fault.

Abstract: PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To obtain a stable servo signal by making the traveling length of a head slider, which is loaded with a magnetic head for a magnetic disk formed with recessed and projecting parts, to be the maximum length or longer in the rotary direction of a control signal recording area. SOLUTION: With the operation of a spindle motor 9, a magnetic disk 3 rotates at a fixed angular velocity, while an arm 4 turns around the vertical shaft 4a. A head slider 6 moves in the radial direction of the magnetic disk 3. As a result, the magnetic head loaded on the head slider 6 performs a seek operation for the magnetic disk 3, recording and reproducing data on the disk 3. The length of the head slider 6 in the direction of the disk circumference, i.e., in the travelling direction of the slider, is made longer than the length in the circumferential direction of a servo zone in the outermost circumference of the disk, i.e., the length in the direction of the disk revolution; hence, the head slider is prevented from falling in the recessed part of the magnetic disk, enabling a servo signal to be obtained stably.

Abstract: PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To precisely detect a projection on a magnetic recording medium by transferring a slider and detecting the projection with a projection detecting sensor. SOLUTION: A magnetic disk 1 is set on a rotating disk 112. The rotation of a spindle motor 111 is controlled with a rotation controller 113 so that the rotating disk 112 rotates at a prescribed number of revolution. A transferring stage 121 is controlled to transfer at a prescribed speed in the outer peripheral direction with a stage controller 125. An input signal from a projection detecting part 120 is inputted into a signal comparing circuit 132 via an amplifying circuit 131. The input signal from the projection detecting part is compared with the magnitude of a slice level signal from a slice level signal storage circuit 133 with the circuit 132. When the projection detecting signal is >= the slice level signal, the projection detecting signal is outputted to a data output circuit 134 and displayed on a displaying device 142. When the projection sensor positions in the outer peripheral edge of the disk 1, checking and processing are finished with the controller 125.

SOLUTION: Recessed and projecting patterns corresponding to servo information and data are formed in the servo area SAR and the ROM data area DAR of a magnetic disk 10. No magnetization operation is necessary on a magnetic 10b. A composite type head 21 including an induction head 21A and an MR head 21B is mounted in a floating slider 33. The head 21B is also used as a temperature sensor for reading servo information and data respectively from the servo area SAR and the ROM data area DAR. When an MR element constituting the head 21B passes through the servo area SAR and the ROM data are DAR, the temperature of the MR element is changed by a change in thermal resistance caused by the recessed and projecting patterns and its resistance value is changed. Thus, as the reproducing signals of the head 21B in the servo area SAR and the ROM data area DAR, servo information and data respectively corresponding to the recessed and projecting patterns are provided.

Abstract: PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To enhance the productivity and reduce the production cost by reduc ing the count of process steps and the working time for manufacturing HDD magnetic disks. SOLUTION: A pattern of projections and recesses is formed on a non- magnetic substrate 10a in a servo area SAR of a magnetic disk 10 correspondingly to servo information. Magnetization of a magnetic layer 10b is unnecessary. A composite head 21 of an inductive head 21A and an MR head 21B is loaded to a floating slider 33 of a float amount of (h). The MR head 21B is used also to read servo information from the servo area SAR. When an MR element constituting the MR head 21B passes the servo area SAR, a temperature of the MR element is changed due to a change of a thermal resistance because of the patter, thereby a resistance value of the MR element is changed. In consequence, servo information corresponding to the pattern is obtained as a reproduction signal of the MR head 21B at the servo area SAR.

Abstract: PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To make the manufacture of a magnetic recording medium easy by a method wherein the magnetizing directions of unevenness formed on the surface of the magnetic recording medium and the reproducing outputs obtained from the unevenness are controlled to perform the multivalue recording of information. SOLUTION: The direction of magnetization of the protruding part of a magnetic film 3 of a magnetic recording medium 1 is opposite to the direction of magnetization of the recessed part of the magnetic film 3. By the transfer from the recessed part to the protruding part, the direction of magnetization is reversed and a leakage magnetic field is produced from a position between the recessed part and the protruding part and the information of a reproduced signal waveform is obtained. By changing the width of the unevenness of the medium within a track pitch, a recording medium which facilitates multivalue recording can be obtained. Further, by changing the height differences of the unevenness of the recording medium 1, multivalue recording can be realized.
