    Abstract: PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To overcome the problem that conventionally, when light is introduced into an optical fiber having a function of amplifying the light of an excitation laser, the light leaking from the optical fiber due to mismatch in the NA between the excitation laser and the optical fiber or due to shift after adjustment is absorbed by a coated material such as a buffer or a jacket of the optical fiber, and this may cause hazard such as heat generation and deterioration in the characteristics. SOLUTION: A translucent material is disposed adjacent to the rear end of the coated material in the propagation direction of the light in the coated optical fiber, the coated material surrounding the peripheral face of a coated optical fiber comprising a light-propagating medium, so that at least part of the light propagating in the coated optical fiber is transmitted and emitted to the outside through a sloped part of the translucent material. Then, a contamination substance such as oil being adhered to each of the mirror holders 20, 30, 40, and 50 and the holder 60 for supporting the barium borate crystal 6 is washed by an aromatic series solvent such as benzene, xylene, and toluene and is substantially eliminated, thus extending the life of a laser resonator and securing long reliability.

    Abstract: PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a stable wavelength converting light source and obtain short-wavelength laser light of high output. SOLUTION: A wavelength conversion system consists of a basic wave light source 11 which generates basic wave light, an external resonator 30a composed of plural mirrors 201, 202, 203, and 204 having high reflection factors to the basic wavelength of the light source, and a nonlinear optical element 17 which is provided in the external resonator 30a and generates the 2nd higher harmonic of the basic wave. The nonlinear optical element 17 is formed by optically joining the same kind or different kinds of material and spatially separates the basic wave light and 2nd higher harmonic light. A means for spatial separation is obtained by using the birefringence of optical crystal. Further, a means for the said joining employs diffusion joining by which joined parts are optically polished into planes, joined together, and then pressed and heated. As the nonlinear optical element 17, beta-BaB2 O4 , CsLiB6 O10 , KTi0P04 , LiNbO3 , LiB3 O5 , or KNbO3 is used.
