    Abstract: The counter for intervals or brackets is monotonic and implemented in the form of integrated circuits. The counter comprises a standard incremental counter (I), a memory store (2), and means for counting the intervals which include the one-time programmable (OTP) cells (3), a comparator (4) with a threshold, a central processing unit (6) and a memory store (5) containing an interval between two thresholds, or a table of the threshold values. The first counting circuit (I) is for a number of bits corresponding to the size of intervals of the same value, the comparator (4) introduces a predetermined threshold corresponding to the size of intervals, and the second counting circuit (3) is attained. The counting circuit (1) is reset each time the threshold is attained. The number of bits is at most equal to the number of bits of the counter. The counting result is obtained by adding the count of the first counting circuit (1) to the number contained in the second counting circuit (3), or its product with the threshold. The central processing unit (6) controls the programming of cells (3). The one-time programmable cells comprise at least one memory element constituted of a resistor of polycrystalline silicon which is programmable by an irreversible decrease of resistance. The programming is effected by a temporary passage of constraint current which is higher than a current for which the resistance has the maximum value. Each programming cell comprises a resistor of polycrystalline silicon connected between a first supply terminal and a differential read terminal, and at least one programming interrupter connecting the read terminal to a second supply terminal. The programming resistor is in the form of two resistors of polycrystalline silicon of identical size and doping level. The counter also comprises a circuit for decoding the states of programming cells. The counter comprises a set of number (2m-n+1-(m-n+2)) of cells distributed in at least m-n groups of 2p-1 cells, where p is the rank of group and m-n is the number of intervals, and at least m-n-1 parity computing uits. A method (claimed) for controlling the counter (claimed) includes the programming of a cell from a group of lower rank each time the parity computing unit of immediately higher rank detects a parity.
