    Abstract: A gas barrier film comprises a thermoplastic resin substrate and on the substrate a gas barrier coating, which coating comprises a water soluble or water dispersible high polymer and inorganic stratified particles. In one film, the surface of the gas barrier coating remote from the substrate has a roughness parameter Rt/Ra of 25 or less. In an alternative film, the gas barrier coating contains an amine compound represented by the following general formula: where R1 stands for a hydrogen atom, or a C1-6 alkyl or allyl or phenyl group; R2 stands for a hydrogen atom, or an optionally substituted alkyl or allyÜ group; and R3 stands for an optionally substituted alkyl or allyl group.

    Abstract: According to the present invention there is provided a polyester composition comprising an aromatic polyester having copolymerized therein a compound containing at least one sulfonic acid group or sulfonic acid metal salt group, and crosslinked polymer particles, preferably crosslinked polymer particles coated with a water-soluble polymer. The particles are incorporated in a slurried state into the polymer. There is also provided a laminate film containing the polymer with the particles thus incorporated therein. The polyester composition is superior in uniform dispersibility of the particles, re-agglomeratin does not occur in melt-storage for a long time, and films formed using the polyester composition are superior in traveling performance and abrasion resistance.

    Abstract: Disclosed is a biaxially oriented film and a laminated film containing specified organic particles at a content of 0.001 to 20% by weight. The strength when deformed by 10% (S10) of the organic particles is in the range of 3 to 30 kgf/mm2, the thermal decomposition temperature for causing 10% loss in weight thereof is not lower than 350 .degree.C . The weight average diameter thereof is in the range of 0.005 to 5 .mu. m. Since the organic particles have a good affinity with the matrix resin of the film and a good thermal resistance and the hardness of the particles is appropriate, desired protrusions hardly chipped and having an appropriate hardness for hardly scratching a magneticsurface can be formed on a film surface easily and uniformly. Therefore, a film excellent in abrasion resistance and scratch resistance at a high running speed and excellent in running durability can be obtained, which is useful particularly as a base film of a magnetic tape.
