    Abstract: PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To enhance rigidity and heat resistance, in the melt extrusion molding of a film by melting a composite of a liquid crystal polyester and non-liquid crystal polyester to extrude the same from a cap, by setting the shearing speed in a cap land and the stagnation time in the cap land to specific values. SOLUTION: In melt extrusion molding of a film by melting a composite of liquid crystal polyester and non-liquid crystal polyester to extrude the same from a cap, the shearing speed in a cap land is set to 30sec or more and the stagnation time in the cap land is set to 0.1sec or more. The liquid crystal polyester is polyester having a mesogen group in its main chain and having melt moldability and liquid crystal forming properties. In order to suppress the shearing heat generation in an extrusion process, melt viscosity (non-liquid crystal polyeste)/melt viscosity (liquid crystal polyester) is set to 5 or more. In a composite form, it is especially pref. to finely disperse liquid crystal polyester in non-liquid crystal polyester in a fibrous form.

    Abstract: PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To produce a tough polyester film, comprising a liquid crystalline polyester, a liquid noncrystalline polyester and a fiberizing agent, having a high rigidity and a low oligomer content and contents of a thermal decomposition product and a gel material and useful for electrical insulation, etc. SOLUTION: This polyester film comprises (A) a liquid crystalline polyester, (B) a liquid noncrystalline polyester and (C) a fiberizing agent capable of substantially fiberizing the component (A). Furthermore, the component (C) is capable of forming the dispersion state of the component (A) in a film obtained by passing a raw material containing the components (A), (B) and (C) through the melt kneading at 10 to 10s shear rate into a fibrous form having >=10 aspect ratio L/D which is a ratio of the fiber length L to the fiber diameter D and is a synthetic oil, a mineral oil, an ether compound or a >=10C higher fatty acid and a metallic salt, etc., thereof. The component (C) is contained in an amount of 0.01-10wt.% in the polyester film and the fiber diameter D of the component (A) is preferably 1μm. The component (A) preferably contains at least 15mol% ethylene terephthalate unit.

    Abstract: PURPOSE:To obtain the high-performance wavelength converting element having a large quadratic nonlinear optical effect by using the crystal of 4-bromo-4'- nitrostilbene of a specific structure. CONSTITUTION:This wavelength converting element is constituted of the orthorhombic crystal belonging to the space group Fdd2 and point group #43 of the 4-bromo-4'-nitrostilbene (BNS) expressed by formula I and has at least one substantially optically smooth surface. This BNS crystal has a strong polarity-oriented structure and a high quadratic nonlinear sensitivity. A high nonlinear optical effect is developed if the wavelength converting element is formed by imparting the substantially optically smooth surface to the BNS crystal of this structure. The high-performance wavelength converting element is obtd. in this way.

    Abstract: PURPOSE:To have large optical nonlinearity for wavelength conversion of a semiconductor laser and to have visible absorption on a short wavelength side with a transmission type by forming an org. nonlinear optical material of a specific compd. having an acceptor-type group and halogen. CONSTITUTION:This org. nonlinear optical material consists of formula I, where A denotes the acceptor-type group and X denotes the halogen. The halogen has the specific property that the halogen is of the acceptor type with respect to a sigma electron and of a donor type with respect to a pi electron. The dipole moment does not increase in the case of this component and since the flexibility of the pi electron which is the origin of the optical nonlinearity of the org. material, the nonlinearity of the molecular light does not have to be smaller than in the case of introducing the donor-type group strong to a benzene deriv. In addition, the visible absorption is nearer the short wavelength side than the known benzene deriv. and, therefore, the problems such as deterioration of the compd. and the degradation in conversion efficiency by the reabsorption of a second harmonic wave due not arise even in the case of subjecting the semiconductor laser light to wavelength conversion. The large optical nonlinearity and the visible absorption on the short wavelength side are thereby provided to this material and the wavelength conversion of the semiconductor laser with the transmission type is enabled.

    Abstract: PURPOSE:To obtain an org. nonlinear optical compd. having characteristics for forming crystal and thin film by imparting high optical nonlinear characteristic and high threshold value of laser rupture,using an org. nonlinear optical compd. having a specified chemical structure. CONSTITUTION:An org. nonlinear optical compd. expressed by the formula is used, wherein D is a cyclic amino group; A is an acceptive substituent; R1-R6 are H or optional substituents. The pi-electron conjugated system is further lengthened by jointing two benzene rings with a double bond, and a donative or acceptive substituent is introduced into the structure, thus the super- polarizability is increased. When a donative or acceptive substituent is introduced into the para-position, the charge transfer interaction is enhanced and the optical nonlinear characteristic of the compd. is increased. L-(2- hydroxymethyl)-pyrrolidinyl group is particularly effective among the cyclic amino groups for increasing the optical nonlinear characteristic. Substitution of the compd. with heavy hydrogen is effective for improving the shift effect of near infrared rays, and the substituted compd. has similar nonlinear optical effect as the unsubstituted compd.

    Abstract: PURPOSE:To obtain an org. nonlinear optical material having high harmonic generating capacity by providing the structure of a 5-membered benzohetero ring obtd. by condensing a 5-membered ring contg. a specified hetero atom with a benzene ring having an electron attractive substituent bonded to the ring. CONSTITUTION:The structure of a 5-membered benzohetero ring obtd. by condensing a 5-membered ring contg. at least one hetero atom selected among N, O and S with a benzene ring having an electron withdrawing substituent bonded to the ring is provided to a nonlinear optical material. The resulting nonlinear optical material has high second harmonic generating (SHG) and third harmonic generating (THG) capacities and a significant nonlinear optical effect. A material having especially high SHG capacity and high phase matching capacity can be utilized as a material for a wavelength converting device or a parametric oscillator.

    Abstract: PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a film which is excellent in mechanical strength, running property, and thermal dimensional stability accompanying the thinning of a high density magnetic recording tape, in particular a magnetic tape for computer. SOLUTION: At least one layer (A layer) comprises a thermoplastic resin (A) and a disc-form inert particle (PA) as the major components. Then, at least on one surface of the layer A, layer B of which the major component is a thermoplastic resin (B) is laminated for this biaxial orientation laminated thermoplastic resin film which has a laminated structure with at least two layers. In this case, the aspect ratio (an average particulate diameter D in the disc plane direction/an average thickness dt of the particle in the direction being vertical to the disc plane) of the disc-form inert particle (PA) is 3 to 100. Also, the content of the disc-form inert particle is 1 to 80 wt.%.
