Abstract:
PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a filter cartridge easily manufactured, inexpensive, and capable of dealing with various changes which cannot be obtained from PTFE products and a complex design, and in addition, formed by materials having properties identical or similar to the PTFE. SOLUTION: A filtration cartridge having a housing 10 with an inlet 20 and an outlet 30 and a filtration membrane 40 contained within the housing and located between the inlet and the outlet. The entire cartridge, housing, membrane and any other components are all formed of one or more perfluorinated thermoplastic resins. The resins preferably are PFA (perfluoroalkoxy), MFA or FEP (fluorinated ethylene-propylene) resins and blends thereof. The filters provide an inert, high temperature and acid/oxidative chemical compound resistant having properties similar to that of PTFE [poly(tetrafluoroethylene)] resins. PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a fluid filtering apparatus and a method, wherein a component having a key is included and a correct filter element is surely fitted to a filter base. SOLUTION: Key configuration is provided between a filter element and a filter housing, a filter and the filter base, and the filter base and the filter housing. A locking arrangement may be provided to prevent undesired loosening of the filter relative to the filter base. The filter base may include a torsion lock insert that is engaged with catches of the filter to prevent the undesired loosening. An adaptor may be provided to provide catches that interact with a torsion lock insert. COPYRIGHT: (C)2010,JPO&INPIT
Abstract:

Abstract:
A filter element (12) is disclosed that includes a filtration media (18), an upstream pleat support (16) and a multi-layer downstream pleat support. The multi-layer downstream support includes a first downstream support layer (19) and a second downstream support layer (22). The first downstream support layer is in contact with the filtration media and is interposed between the filtration media and the second downstream layer. The first downstream support layer is fabricated so as to minimize points of surface contact with the filtration media, thereby enhancing fluid flow away from the filtration media. The second downstream support layer is in contact with the first downstream support layer and is fabricated so as to facilitate lateral fluid flow relative to the multi-layer downstream pleat support. The disclosed filter element may be utilized in filter cartridges of various designs to provide enhanced filtration performance, e.g., by way of increased media area and improved flow/throughput.
Abstract:
A barrier filter useful for aseptically discharging both gaseous and liquid fluids from a chemical process system is disclosed. The barrier filter comprises, within a common enclosure, one or several filter membranes having singularly or collectively a mixture or hydrophobic and hydrophilic regions. The common enclosure of the barrier filter is provided with a fluid inlet and a fluid outlet. All filter membranes are located within the fluid path between the fluid inlet and the fluid outlet. A variety of membrane-based systems, into which such barrier filter is installed, are also disclosed.
