Abstract:
A large diameter rope having improved fatigue life on a sheave, pulley, or drum is disclosed. This rope includes a blend of HMPE filaments and liquid crystal polymer filaments selected from the group of lyotropic polymer filaments and thermotropic polymer filaments. The rope may be constructed as a braided rope, a wire-lay rope, or a parallel core rope.
Abstract:
A pneumatic tire comprises a tread reinforcing belt made of metallic cords, each of the metallic cords is made up of six to twelve metallic filaments whose diameter is not less than 0.15 mm but less than 0.25 mm, the six to twelve metallic filaments are grouped into a plurality of bunches each including two to four filaments, the filaments of each bunch are twisted together at a first twisting pitch, the bunches are twisted together into the cord at a final twist pitch Pc of from 10 to 40 mm, the first twisting pitch is more than the final twist pitch, and the bunches each include at least one waved filament which is two-dimensionally waved at wave pitches Pw in a range of from 5 to 30 times the diameter (d) of the filament and a wave height (h) in a range of from 0.2 to 3.0 times the diameter (d).
Abstract:
The invention improves rubber permeability while making a cord diameter compact. A metal cord is constituted by a layered structure having a core comprising totally 6 to 12 filaments sectioned into 1 to 4 filament bundles, and a sheath comprising 8 to 15 filaments arranged around the core. Each of the filament bundles includes a waved filament modeled in a two-dimensional wave shape and a non-waved filament, in a state before being bundled. The core makes the wave of the waved filament three-dimensional within the core by applying torsion to each of the filament bundles.
Abstract:
A pneumatic tire comprises a cord-reinforced layer such as carcass, belt, bead reinforcing layer which is made of metallic cords, each metallic cord is made up of six to twelve metallic filaments whose diameter is in a range of from 0.15 to 0.45 mm, the metallic filaments include waved filaments and unwaved filaments, each waved filament is two-dimensionally waved at a wave pitch and wave height before twisted, the wave pitch is in a range of from 5.0 to 35.0 times the diameter of the filament, and the wave height is in a range of from 0.2 to 4.0 times the diameter of the filament, and the metallic filaments are twisted together into the cord at a twist pitch of from 10 to 40 mm so that the two-dimensionally waved filaments are each subjected to a certain rotation around its axial.
Abstract:
A pneumatic tire comprises a carcass toroidally extending between a pair of bead portions and a belt arranged outside the carcass in a radial direction of the tire and composed of at least one belt layer, in which the belt layer is made from a plurality of steel cords, each cord being formed by twisting 2 to 4 filament bundles each consisting of two steel filaments paralleled with each other so as to have a structure that major axes of the filament bundles constituting the cord are set toward substantially the same direction. In the belt layer, the major axes of the filament bundles in the cords constituting the belt layer are arranged substantially in a row in a widthwise direction of the belt.
Abstract:
A wire rope, and method of making same, is provided wherein the wire core is lubricated with a heavy viscous lubricant and impregnated with thermoplastic material. The wire rope strands are embedded in the thermoplastic material which holds these strands in a spaced relationship from the core and from each other.

Abstract:
A security device has a flexible strap (26) with a lock unit (28) attached at each end. The strap (26) comprises a plurality of longitudinally extending multi-filament cables or ropes (2) arranged in a substantially planar array embedded in an elastomeric material (4). The cables or ropes (2) have a coating of primer for creating a bond with the elastomeric material (4). The primer may be restricted to the external surface of the cables or ropes (2), or some of the surfaces of the filaments may be free of primer. This facilitates relative movement of the filaments during flexure or compression of the strap (26). Moreover, an extrusion process for manufacturing the strap (26) including a priming station (12) is disclosed.
Abstract:
A mooring rope comprising two different types of synthetic materials which provide the mooring rope with a larger diameter and greater wear resistance without causing the strength of the rope to increase. The mooring rope may comprise a plurality of rope strands, wherein each strand has a core comprising primarily polypropylene with high molecular weight polyethylene rope yarns twisted around it. The production process for manufacturing such mooring ropes is disclosed, too. Synthetic materials include liquid crystal polyester, aramid and ceramics.
