Abstract: A synthetic rope for an elevator having improved resistance to compression and abrasion is provided and comprises a plurality of strands forming layers of the rope, each strand formed from a plurality of pre-twisted strands made from high modulus synthetic filaments. One or more of the strands or layers of strands may be impregnated with a lubricant, such as polytetrafluoroethylene, to reduce the abrasion among the strands and substrands, and increase the service life of the rope. The exterior of the rope may be covered by a jacket that provides for traction with the drive sheave. An elevator system comprising the claimed rope is also provided.

Abstract: The invention concerns a hybrid steel cord comprising, in contact with one or several carbon steel wire(s), at least one stainless steel wire with its microstructure containing less than 20 % of martensite ( % in volume). The invention also concerns the use of at least one stainless steel wire in a steel cord comprising carbon steel wires, to improve by contact the fatigue-fretting-corrosion strength of theses carbon steel wires, and thereby the fatigue life of the steel cord itself. The invention further concerns cords as per the invention for reinforcing plastic and/or rubber articles and plastic and/or rubber articles reinforced with such cords, in particular tyre treads or body plies of such tyre treads.

Abstract: A light weight, strong and flexible, braided electrical fence rope, for fences to contain livestock and keep unwanted animals out, combines in its outer braided jacket electrically conductive elements with high strength non-conductive elements in a double helix configuration. The outer braided jacket will preferably surround an inner core of non-conductive high strength elements. The high strength non-conductive elements and the physical properties of the braided rope construction provide inherent strength and flexibility properties to the fence rope. The conductive elements in the outer braided jacket are selected to provide an effective electric shock when contacted by an animal.
