Abstract: Deterioration of transparent conductive films constituting display electrodes is prevented and the reliability of display is improved. An AC in-plane discharge plasma display panel is provided with a plurality of display elecdtrodes X and Y each of which has a multilayer structure comprising a transparent conductive film or a metallic film having a width narrower than that of the conductive film and a dielectric layer covering the electrodes X and Y from the discharging space. The dielectric layer is made of ZnO glass material substantially containing no lead. The dielectric layer covers up to the ends of the display electrodes and protect them. The dielectric layer is etched off in a succeeding process.

The first (21) and second (23) electrodes include metal electrodes extending in the second direction, protrusion electrodes projecting toward a center of each of the discharge cells from the metal electrodes, and fence electrodes surrounding the protrusion electrodes.

Abstract: A plasma display panel has a first substrate (20), a plurality of address electrodes (A1,A2,A3) disposed on the first substrate, a first dielectric layer (22) disposed on the first substrate in covering relation to the address electrodes, a second substrate (10), a plurality of scan electrodes (13) disposed on the second substrate in a direction transverse to the address electrodes, a second dielectric layer (14) disposed on the second substrate in covering relation to the scan electrodes. The first substrate and the second substrate are disposed in confronting relation to each other with discharge spaces defined therebetween. The first dielectric layer (22) contains electrically conductive particles (30) mixed therewith. The electrically conductive particles make the first dielectric layer electrically conductive in its transverse direction to allow charges stored on the first dielectric layer to leak to the address electrodes for thereby reducing the frequency of random discharges.

Abstract: The first object of the present invention is to provide a PDP with improved panel brightness which is achieved by improving the efficiency in conversion from discharge energy to visible rays. The second object of the present invention is to provide a PDP with improved panel life which is achieved by improving the protecting layer protecting the dielectrics glass layer. To achieve the first object, the present invention sets the amount of xenon in the discharge gas to the range of 10% by volume to less than 100% by volume, and sets the charging pressure for the discharge gas to the range of 500 to 760Torr which is higher than conventional charging pressures. With such construction, the panel brightness increases. Also, to achieve the second object, the present invention has, on the surface of the dielectrics glass layer, a protecting layer consisting of an alkaline earth oxide with (100)-face or (110)-face orientation. The protecting layer, which may be formed by using thermal Chemical Vapor Deposition (CVD) method, plasma enhanced CVD method, or a vapor deposition method with irradiation of ion or electron beam, will have a high sputtering resistance and effectively protect the dielectrics glass layer. Such a protecting layer contributes to the improvement of the panel life.

Abstract: It is an object of the present invention to prevent deterioration of a transparent electrically-conductive film which forms display electrodes, so as to enhance the reliability of display electrodes. In an AC type plasma display panel including a plurality of display electrodes X & Y formed of a transparent electrically-conductive film or a multiple layer of a transparent electrically-conductive film plus a metal film a width of which is narrower therethan, and a dielectric layer to cover the display electrodes from the discharge space, the dielectric layer is formed by the use of a ZnO-containing glass material containing substantially none of lead. Moreover, the display electrodes are protected by coating the dielectric layer so far as the ends of display electrodes; and the coating is removed afterwards by etching, etc..

Abstract: The present invention is directed to a discharge tube for use with a display device which is simple in structure and which can be mass-produced satisfactorily. Further, the discharge tube for display device of the present invention can be increased in resolution and can be made large in size with ease. Furthermore, the discharge tube for use with a display device of the present invention can be made inexpensive with ease. A pair of memory elements (Ma), (Mb) having memory electrodes (3a), (3b) formed of conductive layers having a plurality of apertures (5a), (5b) arranged in an XY matrix form and in which the whole surface of the memory electrodes (3a), (3b) are covered with insulating layers (4a), (4b) are laminated such that corresponding apertures (5a), (5b) covered with the insulating layers (4a), (4b) are communicated with each other to thereby form discharge cells all of which are sealed into a tube body in which a discharging gas is sealed. Then, an AC voltage necessary fir maintaining a discharge is applied between the memory electrodes (3a), (3b) of the pair of memory elements (Ma), (Mb).

Abstract: A discharge tube for a display device includes a pair of memory elements (Ma, Mb) having memory electrodes (3a, 3b) formed of conductive layers with a plurality of apertures (5a, 5b) arranged in an XY matrix form, and in which the entire surfaces of the memory electrodes (3a, 3b) are covered with insulating layers (4a, 4b) and laminated such that corresponding apertures (5a, 5b) covered with the insulating layers (4a, 4b) communicate with each other thereby forming discharge cells, all of which are sealed into a tube body (1, 6) in which a discharging gas is enclosed. An AC voltage (10) necessary for maintaining a discharge is applied between the memory electrodes (3a, 3b) of the pair of memory elements (Ma, Mb).
