Apparatus for continuously conveying decorated container members having wet ink images on the outer periphery thereof between a first continuously moving rotatable mandrel wheel type container carrying apparatus of a high speed container decorator or coater machine and a high speed second continuously linearly moving pin chain container carrying apparatus comprising: a continuously rotatable disk type conveyor means rotatably movable in a predetermined endless path between the first and second continuously moving container carrying apparatus including a first path portion located in juxtaposition to the first continuously moving container carrying apparatus for receiving decorated container members therefrom and a second path portion located in juxtaposition to the second continuously moving container carrying apparatus delivering decorated container members thereto; a plurality of individual circumferentially spaced vacuum cup means fixedly peripherally mounted in equally spaced relationship on and extending laterally outwardly of and being continuously movable with said disk type conveyor means in fixed relationship therewith for holding a single container member on each of said vacuum cup means, only by application of vacuum thereto during movement between the first and second continuously moving container carrying apparatus and for releasing container members therefrom only by removal of vacuum therefrom; and vacuum chamber means extending along the path of movement of and in substantially seaied relationship with said disk type conveyor means between the first and second continuously movable container carrying apparatus and being connected to each of said vacuum cup means adjacent to the first continuously moving container carrying apparatus for receiving and holding container members delivered therefrom and being disconnected from each of said vacuum cup means adjacent to the second continuously moving container carrying apparatus for releasing the container members for supportive engagement therewith and being continuously connected to each of said vacuum cup means during movement between the first continuously moving container carrying apparatus and the second continuously moving container carrying apparatus for holding the container members thereon solely by applied vacuum during non-supportive association with the second continuously moving container carrying apparatus.

A method and apparatus for processing used empty aluminum and steel cans wherein groups of empty cans are carried upwardly on an inclined conveyor (46) between spaced inclined ribs (48) and separately sequentially discharged therefrom into an air duct (58) wherein empty cans (32E) are blown to a crusher (80) whereat the empty cans (32E) are sequentially crushed and fall onto a magnetic separator (95) whereat crushed aluminum cans (32A) are separated from crushed steel cans (325) and fall into a weigh hopper (110) whereat the weight of crushed aluminum cans (32A) is determined whereupon compensation is dispensed for the value of the crushed aluminum cans (32A). Thereafter, the crushed aluminum cans (32A) are sequentially dropped into an air duct and blown to a storage bin.

An apparatus for monitoring the phasing relationship of a moving web of material of the type having a repeating series of graphics patterns thereon which repeat at ordinarily constant distance repeat length intervals of web travel and which contain separate repeating indicia portions which define a repeating indicia set which are positioned in a repeating indicia path extending longitudinally of the web comprising: an indicia detection device for providing an indicia detection pulses signal; a web travel sensing device for providing a web movement signal; an indicia profiling device for processing the indicia pulse signal and the web monitoring signal for generating a unique indicia image for each of the repeating indicia in a selected repeat length portion of the web; an indicia image storage device for indentifying and storing the indicia images from a first selected repeat length portion of the web; a register indicia designation device for initially designating one of the repeating indicia to be register indicia; a register indicia sensing device for providing a register indicia pulse signal having pulses which in normal operation corresponds to the detection of the selected register indicia; a register indicia verification device for verifying that the repeating indicia which is in synchronization with said register indicia pulse signal is the currently designated register indicia; and a register indicia correction device for designating the indicia that is in synchronization with said register indicia pulse signal as the register indicia and replacing the previously designated register indicia therewith when the indicia image of the current register indicia is not verified to be the indicia which is in synchronization with the register indicia pulse signal.

A container end member is provided and has a first severable tab portion which is defined by a score line groove and has an integral hinge portion for permanently securing it to the container end member and a force applying tab portion permanently pivotally mounted on the container end member and used to apply a force on the first severable tab portion to form a pour opening in the container end member and a second severable tab portion having an integral hinge portion for permanently securing it to the container end member and having a raised surface projecting outwardly from the container end member so that a force may be applied thereto to sever the second severable tab portion and form a vent opening in the container end member.

Un appareil et un procédé servent à couper une partie de l'extrémité ouverte d'un corps de boîte non égalisé, de façon à former un corps de boîte égalisé et une partie enlevée par découpage, au moyen d'une pluralité d'appareils d'égalisation (32) montés sur une tourelle (34) fixée à un arbre principal d'entraînement (10) de façon à tourner avec celui-ci. Chaque appareil d'égalisation comprend des mécanismes de découpage (50, 68) du corps de boîte non égalisé de façon à former un corps de boîte égalisé (78) et une partie enlevée par découpage (92); des mécanismes de séparation du corps de boîte égalisé de la partie enlevée par découpage (76) en déplaçant les deux axialement, puis uniquement le corps égalisé dans le sens axial opposé; des mécanismes de chargement des corps de boîte non égalisés dans chaque appareil (76) de traitement des boîtes et de déchargement des corps égalisés de boîte, ainsi que des mécanismes de découpage, de molettage et d'élimination des parties enlevées par découpage.
Abstract:
A device and method for forming a moving web (16) of laminated composite material having weakened zones therein from a moving continuous web (12) of relatively extensible plastic film material, having identical sets of graphics printed on nominally constant length repeat length portions thereof which are subject to length variation from a constant design repeat length distance, and a moving continuous web (14) of relatively nonextensible paper material. A method and device for forming a three-layered composite material having weakened zones therein is also described. Carton blanks and liquid tight cartons having tear away tab portions formed from such three-layered composite material are also described.
