Abstract: A reflectron lens for a time-of-flight mass spectrometer is disclosed. The reflectron lens includes a glass tube having a conductive surface along the length of the tube. The conductive surface has an electrical resistance gradient along its length. The electrical resistance gradient provides an electric field interior to the tube that varies in strength along the length of the tube when an electric potential is applied to opposing ends of the tube. A mass spectrometer incorporating the reflectron lens, a method of making the reflectron lens, and an apparatus for removing lead from the surface of a lead silicate glass tube are also disclosed.

Abstract: A radio-frequency (RF) radiation suppressor 700 for use with magnetrons comprises an insulating sleeve 702, e.g. of PTFE, and an outer shell cladding layer 704 made of an RF absorbing material such as a molded composite iron powder/epoxy resin material that acts as an absorber to reduce magnetron radiation leakage. The insulating sleeve 702 end has tabs 706 and a groove to seat a metal clamping ring that contacts the magnetron cathode and provides a terminal connection for the cathode voltage bias and filament heating circuit leads. The suppressor may further comprise an outer insulating sleeve (fig 13). The suppressor is made by moulding the layer 704 in an annular space formed between the insulating sleeve 702 and a surrounding mould.

Abstract: A relay switch in an ac main line has a dc-powered applying for applying amplified control sensor signals to the control circuit of the relay switch. To provide dc power for the amplifier when the relay switch main controlled current conduction path is conductive, a current transformer primary winding is arranged in series with that path, and the voltage appearing across the secondary winding is rectified. To provide dc power for the amplifier when the relay switch main controlled current conduction path is non-conductive, an open-circuit voltage related to that appearing across the open-circuit non-conductive path is rectified. To permit the use of one rectifier for developing dc power for the amplifier it is advantageous to apply the open-circuit voltage to the secondary winding of the current transformer through a dc-blocking capacitor with sufficient ac impedance to restrict ac flow across the open-circuit relay switch path.

Abstract: A vertical motion detector for a TV system motion detector. The circuit operates by delaying each motion indicator signal by multiple units of the time required for one full horizontal line sweep. If vertical motion occurs, the delayed indicator will output from the delay at the same time another indicator occurs. These signals are fed to multiple AND gates so that several coincident signals are required to produce an alarm. A switching circuit permits selection of the number of vertical motion indicators required for an alarm.
