Abstract: Biogenic sulfide production is synergistically inhibited by treating sulfate-reducing bacteria (SRB) with a biocide and a metabolic inhibitor. The biocide directly kills a first portion of the SRB. The metabolic inhibitor inhibits sulfate-reducing growth of a second portion of the SRB without directly killing the second portion of the SRB. The treatment of SRB with both a biocide and a metabolic inhibitor provides effective biogenic sulfide inhibition at significantly lower concentrations than would be required if the biocide or metabolic inhibitor was used alone.

Abstract: Particulate sorbent compositions comprising a mixture of zinc oxide, silica, alumina and a substantially reduced valence nickel are provided for the desulfurization of a feedstream of cracked-gasoline or diesel fuels in a desulfurization zone by a process which comprises the contacting of such feedstreams in a desulfurization zone followed by separation of the resulting low sulfur-containing stream and sulfurized-sorbent and thereafter regenerating and activating the separated sorbent before recycle of same to the desulfurization zone.

Abstract: The rate of evaporation in an evaporation pond containing contaminated produced or process water from a hydrocarbon production operation is increased by pumping water from just beneath the surface of the pond through a pipe extending around the periphery of the pond. The water is dispensed around the periphery of the pond from ports in the pipe and then trickles down into the pond water. The pond has a black plastic lining, with a border region that is not submerged. The water from the pipe trickles down across the un-submerged black lining that is at an elevated temperature due to radiative solar heating, and energy is thereby imparted to the water to increase the rate of evaporation.

Abstract: A method for producing heavy oil, the method including producing oil by SAGD or a SAGD variant in an array of wellpairs until an SOR increases, then shutting in every other injector and injecting steam plus noncondensable gas (NCG) in the remaining injectors and producing oil from all producers. The method reduced steam usage by at least 40% or even at least 50% in the later stages of the well, without comprising oil production.

Abstract: Pressure sensing plugs are used to check pressure in various void or cavities of a wellhead or Xmas tree of an active hydrocarbon well. Pressure sensing plugs (51) are provided at various points in the wellhead or Xmas tree (50). Each plug incudes a pressure transducer (39) and associated electronics allowing the pressure to be read by a hand held reader device. Alternatively, the plugs may include a radio transmitter for transmitting sensed data to a monitoring system via a wifi network or similar to a central control room on a hydrocarbon producing platform. In this way, the pressure at the various points in the wellhead/Xmas tree may be checked without exposing the cavity or void.
