Abstract:
An easily disassembled, rugged stand for supporting musical instruments does not require moving parts, hinges, or screws. The stand is made of two similar interlocking supports, a cap and a removable, flexible strap. The supports are adapted to be fastened together and contain the cap when the stand is disassembled. Further, the flexible strap may be fastened to the supports and used as a handle. When the stand is assembled, the supports are further stabilized by the cap, and the flexible strap may be attached to the cap and used to hold, for example the neck of a guitar.
Abstract:
A method and system for conducting electronic online auctions having partial quantity evaluated rank bidding is disclosed. Submitted bids are ordered on a basis of a comparative bid parameter used by an originator of an auction (106). The quantity required by the originator of the auction (106) is then allocated to the offered quantities of the submitted bids based upon a ranked ordering of the bids.
Abstract:
A method of manufacturing a component formed of parts capable of being separated for reassembly around another component. The process starts by taking separated, e.g., rod (3) and cap (5), forgings and coining or forging them together prior to machining. The mating surfaces of the forgings are formed with a ridge-groove or a dimple/lug-recess configuration giving them a self-locating ability. After machining, the forgings are fractured along the original division to obtain two uniquely matched surfaces that need no further processing before being reassembled, e.g, to form a connecting rod for an internal combustion engine.

A method of manufacturing a component formed of parts capable of being separated for reassembly around another component. The process starts by taking separate, e.g., rod (3, 3') and cap (5, 5') forgings and coining or forging them together prior to machining. The mating surfaces of the forgings are formed with a ridge-groove (9) or a dimple/lug-recess (12) configuration giving them a self-locating ability. After machining, the forgings are fractured along the original division to obtain two uniquely matched surfaces that need no further processing before being reassembled, e.g., to form a connecting rod for an internal combustion engine.
Abstract:
A flashless metal connecting rod of the type having a one-piece construction and being fracturable into a cap portion (22) and a body portion (20) is produced by providing a precise preform (32) of predetermined dimensions and a precise weight, induction heating the preform (32) to a suitable forging temperature, sequentially compressing the preform (32) between a plurality of unique sets of forging dies (38). The resulting final forging is both flashless and burrless. Preferably, the sequential compressing of the preform (32) is accomplished through three sets of forging dies which progressively form the precision preform to its ultimate shape (80).
Abstract:
An integrated system and process provides integrated control of the environment within a personal space. A tent or other structure suitable for forming a personal space, is in contact with, and may enclose, a user station. The system includes a control system, main controller, control modules, sensors, environmental units and other controllers that operate in an integrated fashion to provide a controlled environment within the personal space. The tent may enclose all or portions of the control system, main controller, control modules, sensors, environmental units and other controllers. Portions of the control system, main controller, control modules, sensors, environmental units and other controllers may reside outside tent. A process for providing environmental control of the personal space includes learning capabilities.
Abstract:
A shirt and lower undergarment are disclosed that provide a system for keeping a shirt in a tucked-in position. The shirt having strips of fabric attached to the interior on the front, back and sides with snaps on the strips of fabric. The lower undergarment disclosed may also have snaps attached using strips of fabric, with the snaps on the undergarment positioned to receive the snaps on the shirt and hold the shirt in a tucked position.
Abstract:
A method of reducing the power output of a wind turbine, the wind turbine having a rotor and a generator for producing power, the rotor operating at a first rotational speed, the method comprising the steps of: receiving a power request signal from a source external to the wind turbine, the power request signal indicating by how much the power output of the wind turbine should be reduced;determining a second rotational speed of the rotor based on the power request signal, the second rotational speed being lower than the first rotational speed; and reducing the power output of the turbine by reducing the rotational speed of the rotor to the second rotational speed.
Abstract:
Apparatus and methods for electrospinning and/or electrospray are disclosed. The apparatus and methods are provided for electrospinning of fibre, or deposition of droplets on a surface by electrospraying. The apparatus comprises: a band tensioned between first and second rollers and curved around the rollers, an electric field generator for providing an electric field between an electrospinning zone at the first roller and a counter electrode, and a bath for containing liquid arranged to wet the band or regions of the band as it passes around the second roller. The band is arranged to transport liquid from the bath to the electrospinning zone for the production of fibres in said zone. The electric field generator may be arranged to provide an electric field between the counter electrode and the surface of the band where it is curved around the first roller.
Abstract:
An electron amplifier device is provided which comprises a substrate having a plurality of vias extending between opposing faces. An electrically conductive layer is formed on at least one of the faces, and a secondary electron emission layer is formed on the conductive layer.
