Abstract: The invention is a method of determining the thickness of a casing in a wellbore penetrating an earth formation using group delay determined casing resonance extracted from processed reflection signals from an acoustic pulse-echo imaging tool. A first Fourier transform coefficient series is calculated from the digitized reflection signal. Individual samples of the reflection signal are multiplied by their sample index values to obtain a modified digitized data string. A second Fourier transform coefficient series is calculated from the modified digitized data. The complex group delay function is calculated directly from the first and second Fourier coefficient series.

Abstract: A seismic method and system for generating seismic source energy in marine geophysical operations. A slotted housing is moveable by the actuation of piezoelectric elements to generate high power, low frequency seismic source signals. When the piezoelectric elements are activated by electric power, displacement of such elements is enlarged by the slotted housing to generate a pressure pulse in the water. The invention permits single source pressure pulse generation having sufficient power and low frequency. The housing can be towed by a seismic vessel or can be integrated into a self-contained marine vehicle.

Abstract: A method for displaying seismic attributes in an open three-dimensional format is provided. The conventional two-dimensional variable-amplitude traces that represent the magnitude of a selected seismic attribute as a function of time are converted to three-dimensional format. The three-dimensional converted traces are hung beneath a model of their corresponding data-gathering stations to provide a forest of seismic traces in a wire-frame environment. The open configuration of the seismic traces permits the interpreter to see a perspective view of the structure of the subsurface of the earth from any desired viewing angle.
