    Abstract: PURPOSE: A Dalbergia odorifera T. Chen extract is provided to ensure a skin whitening effect through a mechanism that suppresses melanogenesis by inhibiting the activity of tyrosinase and to be safely applied to the skin as a cosmetic composition. CONSTITUTION: A Dalbergia odorifera T. Chen extract has a skin whitening effect. The extract suppresses the activity of tyrosinase which is related to melanogenesis. The extract is prepared using a solvent selected from the group consisting of ethanol, hexane, purified water, and butylene glycol. The extraction solvent is 70-95 % ethanol. A cosmetic composition for skin whitening contains the extract as an active ingredient.
