Abstract:
Biodegradable polyalphaolefin fluids which are useful in fucntional fluid and lubricant compositions are oligomers of mixtures of C12 and C14 alphaolefins. The fluids have kinematic viscosities at 100 DEG C of from 5 to 20 mm /s and a biodegradability as determined by the CEC L-33 A93 test of at least about 50 percent.
Abstract:
A method is disclosed for recovering crude oil from a subterranean formation. The invention utilizes the introduction of water containing ammonium nitrate, which is capable of decomposing to generate an oxidant, into the formation. Decomposition conditions and ignition conditions are established within the formation to cause ignition within the formation. The in-situ combustion which results assists in the recovery of crude oil from the formation.
Abstract:
A process for the recovery of BF3 from crude oligomerization reaction product mixture containing dissolved BF3 is described, the process being characterized by vaporization of BF3 from the crude oligomerization reaction product mixture in a vaporization zone at a temperature insufficient to decompose BF3 or any BF3-promoter complex in the mixture. BF3 from the vaporization zone is then contacted with a liquid olefin composition or liquid olefin composition and a promoter composition capable of forming a complex with BF3, in an absorption zone, forming a mixture comprising liquid olefin composition and BF3 and/or BF3-promoter complex. The mixture may be utilized directly for oligomerization of the liquid olefin.
Abstract:
Tufted carpet having good tuft bind and fuzz resistance comprising pile face yams, a backing fabric and an adhesive binder free of inorganic and latex materials. The adhesive binder comprises a thermoplastic fabric, which melts to secure the pile to the backing.
Abstract:
A water-soluble trimellitic acid-based biodegradable surfactant and emulsifier is disclosed for emulsification polymerization process. The water-soluble biodegradable surfactant and emulsifier is useful in emulsion polymerization processes for polymerizing monomers of styrene and vinyl chloride.
Abstract:
Multiple gate field emitter devices and sources that are particularly useful as part of a matrix-addressed flat panel display system. In particular, a field emitter device is disclosed of the vertical type that has at least an emitter substrate and a collector substrate that is vertically spaced from said emitter substrate, and that comprises: at least one field emitter structure that protrudes from an emission side of said emitter substrate; an insulating layer applied to said emission side of said emitter substrate that circumscribes said at least one field emitter structure; and a conductive layer applied over said insulating layer patterned to form at least two adjacent conductive gates that each partially circumscribe said at least one field emitter structure.
Abstract:
A transgenic higher plant, seed containing the transgene, and methods of providing enhanced carotenoid accumulation are disclosed. The transgenic higher plant has a genomic structural gene that encodes a chimeric polypeptide conjugate and over accumulates a colored native carotenoid in a preselected storage organ relative to the accumulation in a non-transgenic plant of the same type. Expression of the chimeric polypeptide is driven by a promoter operatively linked to that structural gene that provides storage organ-enhanced expression. The chimeric polypeptide has an N-terminal plastid transit peptide portion whose C-terminus is linked to the N-terminus of a non-higher plant phytoene synthase enzyme.
Abstract:
Electrically conductive tape yarns (1, 9) of two or more layers (3, 5, 11, 13, 15) comprising thermoplastic polymer resin and electrically conductive particles, a process for making such tapes and fabrics (17) comprising such tape yarns are disclosed.
Abstract:
A process and catalyst are provided for dehydrogenating a hydrocaron feedstock and producing an olefinic product. The process comprises contacting the feedstock at dehydrogenation conditions with a dehydrogenation catalyst comprising from about 0.01 weight percent to about 5.0 weight percent of a platinum group metal, from about 0.02 weight percent to about 10.0 weight percent of zinc, and a support component comprising L zeolite and an alkali metal.
