Abstract: Polycarbonate compositions containing a Bisphenol A-based oligo-phosphate or -phosphonate compound with an isopropenyl phenyl phosphate content of less than 1 wt%. A polycarbonate composition containing a phosphorus compound of formula (I) with less than 1 wt% isopropenyl phenyl phosphate (IPP) based on the amount of (I). [Image] R1>-R4>1-8C alkyl (optionally halogen-substituted), 5-6C cycloalkyl, 6-10C aryl or 7-12C aralkyl (all optionally substituted with halogen and alkyl); R5>, R6>1-4C alkyl or halogen; Y : isopropylidene; n : 0 or 1; q : 0, 1, 2, 3 or 4; N : 0.1-5. An independent claim is also included for molded products obtained from this composition.

Abstract: Crosslinked polymer beads with an average particle size of 1-1000 mu m, prepared from olefinically unsaturated compounds and a halogen-free phosphorus compound (I), are new. Independent claims are also included for the following: (1) production of the polymer beads by: (a) dispersing an organic phase in an aqueous phase at 0-60 deg C with stirring, where the organic phase comprises 5-95 wt.% of a monomer mixture (70-99.7 wt.% monoolefinically unsaturated monomers, 0.3-30 wt.% polyolefinically unsaturated monomers), 5-95 wt.% (I), an initiator and optionally a water-immiscible organic solvent, and the aqueous phase comprises water, a dispersant and optionally a seed polymer; (b) polymerizing the monomers by heating and stirring; and (c) removing any volatile organic compounds and isolating, washing and drying the beads; (2) compositions comprising thermoplastic polymers (II) and the polymer beads; (3) shaped products obtainable from the compositions.

The preferred phosphorus-silicon compound is produced by thermal oligomerization from phosphorylated silanes.
