    Abstract: PURPOSE:To effectively attain vibration pattern information for the blind's reading by optically reading pattern information, converting it into an electrical signal, further AD-converting said signal and driving a perception display. CONSTITUTION:With the aid of a clock pulse from a CPU 4, an area photosensor 1 outputs electrical reading signals of one frame, and an AD converter 2 digitally converts them and outputs a series of frame data. The CPU 4 compares a prescribed threshold value TH with each frame data, and judges dark level data when the frame data is greater than the threshold value TH; otherwise, judges bright level data. Then, the CPU 4 converts the frame data into binary pattern data and stores it in a RAM 7. With this binary pattern data, the feeling perception display 5 is driven. Display pulses are constantly inputted from the CPU 4 to the display 5, and a piezoelectric element corresponding to the binary pattern data is vibrated to display feeling perception. The blind thereby realize two-dimensional optical pattern information as three- dimensional vibration pattern information.

Further, a storage circuit 27 is stored with read pattern data when the switch 16 is on in storage mode. Then the tactile display device 5 converts the pattern information read by the camera part 3 into a vibration pattern which can be sensed by touching and outputted. Thus, the function and operability are improved.

Here, when the read pattern is a display pattern of a display device, read cycles are only adjusted by operating a read cycle adjustment lever 4. Thus, a user himself or herself adjusts the read cycle to an optimum value and then the influence of the frame cycles of the display device on the read pattern is reduced.
