Abstract:
The invention includes an oral care composition that reduces and/or eliminates the perception of tooth sensitivity. The composition includes an adherent material and includes, in part, particles having a particle size of 2-5 microns. Also included within the scope of the invention are methods comprising the use of such compositions, such as methods of reducing dental sensitivity.
Abstract:
The invention provides a method of treating sensitive teeth comprising attaching a sealant composition comprising a basic amino acid to a person's tooth and allowing the basic amino acid to be slowly released over time in order to reduce chrome and/or acute tooth sensitivity together with compositions and methods of use.
Abstract:
This invention relates to oral care compositions comprising an effective amount of a basic amino acid in free or salt form, together with an antibacterial agent, and to methods of using and of making such compositions.
Abstract:
This invention relates to oral care compositions comprising an effective amount of a salt of a basic amino acid, the salt having a pH in an unbuffered solution of less than about 7.5: an effective amount of a soluble fluoride salt: and a particulate material which has a pH in an unbuffered solution of less than about 7.5; and to methods of using and of making such compositions.
Abstract:
The invention includes an oral care composition that reduces and/or eliminates the perception of tooth sensitivity. The composition includes an adherent material and particles having an average particle size of about 8 microns or less. The particles are present in the composition in an amount of about 5% by weight. Also included within the scope of the invention are related methods, such as methods of occluding a dentin tubule.
Abstract:
An oral care composition, such as a dentifrice composition, which provides enhanced anti-gingivitis efficacy is disclosed. The composition includes a tocopherol component which consists of about 10% to about 90% of gamma tocopherol, with the balance of the components selected from alpha tocopherol, beta tocopherol, delta tocopherol, and mixtures thereof.
Abstract:
Oral care compositions comprising: a) an oral care active; and b) an acrylic film forming polymer. In various embodiments, such polymers comprise monomeric units such as acrylic acid, methacrylic acid, acrylates, and combinations thereof. In one embodiment, the film forming polymer comprises a copolymer of a first monomeric unit selected from the group consisting of acrylic acid, methacrylic acid, and combinations thereof, with a second monomeric unit selected from the group consisting of acrylates, acrylamides, acetates, and combinations thereof. In various embodiments, the polymer is a terpolymer comprising a combination of the second monomeric units. Preferably, the composition additionally comprises a lower alcohol, such as ethanol. In various embodiments, the oral care active comprises a whitening material, such as a peroxide.
Abstract:
A method for inhibiting chemical staining of a dental surface comprises contacting the dental surface, prior to said staining, with an orally acceptable polymer or copolymer comprising a plurality of monomeric groups of formula (I) wherein (a) one of A and A' is hydrogen and the other is a moiety (X) n (R) m , (b) n in individual such moieties is independently 0 or 1, (c) linking groups X if present independently comprise an oxygen, sulfur, nitrogen, phosphorus or silicon atom, (d) where n is 0, m is 1, and where n is 1, m is independently an integer from 1 to 3 as determined by X, (e) terminal groups R are independently hydrogen or C 1-18 organic radicals, and (f) M and M' are independently selected from hydrogen, alkali metal and ammonium; said polymer or copolymer having an average molecular weight of at least about 1,000.
Abstract:
A toothbrush that uses light to deliver an oral care benefit such as the detection of plaque or the whitening of teeth. In one embodiment, dye is incorporated in a carrier that attaches to residual plaque on the tooth surface and is activated by the presence of ultraviolet radiation to create a fluorescent effect that would indicate the presence of plaque remaining on the teeth. In another embodiment, a toothpaste formulation contains ultraviolet brighteners as a whitening ingredient that have a whitening or bleaching effect when in contact with ultraviolet radiation. The activation of the brighteners preferably occurs through the use of a toothbrush having a UV source. In yet another embodiment, a toothpaste formulation contains an oxidizing agent as a whitening ingredient, the activation of which occurs through the use of a toothbrush having a source of light energy which includes LEDs in the bristle field.
Abstract:
A two component desensitizing dentifrice composition is disclosed which comprises a first dentifrice component containing an enzyme such as papain and a second dentifrice component containing an ionic surfactant such as sodium lauryl sulfate, the first and second dentifrice components being maintained separate from the other until dispensed for application to teeth whereby enzyme activity is maintained with improved dentifrice foaming characteristics.
