Abstract:
The present invention includes methods and devices for locating emergency service providers during emergency operations. According to some implementations, radio frequency identification ('RFID') tags are positioned at various locations throughout a building. Building locations can be determined from the RFID tags . Emergency service providers may be equipped with a portable device that includes at least one RFID reader for reading the RFID tags. Some implementations involve transmitting the RFID tag data to a control center from which the emergency services are coordinated. The emergency service workers' current and prior locations can be determined by the portable devices and/or at the control center.
Abstract:
In one embodiment, a method for enhanced extension mobility includes accessing user input indicating either a desire of a user to logon at an endpomt [figure 1, unit 16] in a private mode according to which the endpoint supports only an extension of the user or a desire of the user to logon at the endpoint [figure 1, unit 16] in a shared mode according to which the endpoint concurrently supports an extension of the user and one or more other extensions of one or more other users. The method includes configuring the endpoint to support only an extension of the user if the user input indicates a desire of the user to logon at the endpoint in a private mode according to which the endpoint supports only an extension of the user. The method includes configuring the endpoint to concurrently support an extension of the user and one or more other extensions of one or more other users if the user input indicates a desire of the user to logon at the endpoint in a shared mode according to which the endpoint concurrently supports an extension of the user and one or more other extensions of one or more other users.
Abstract:
According to one embodiment of the invention, a method for conducting a conference call between two or more participants (16) is provided. The method includes receiving an indication of a request for text from a participant (16). The method also includes converting, in response to the indication, any speech of the other participants of the conference call into text. The method also includes sending the text to a device associated with the participant who requested test. The device is operable to display the text.
Abstract:
A method for indicating the priority of a Voice Over Internet Protocol (VoIP) call includes receiving a dialed number (200) for a connection, generating a call set up request including the dialed number (205), receiving a priority for the call based on user input provided contemporaneously with the dialed number, generating a priority indicator based on the priority (215), and transmitting the call setup request (220) and priority indicator to a destination device.
Abstract:
Methods and devices are provided for automating a login process and user/device associations. A user's preferred device settings and/or functions may be provisioned automatically. Some implementations provide an automated log out or "sleep" when a user leaves one or more of the devices. Users may be automatically identified and associated. The "presence" of members of a user group may be determined as required for one or more actions to be taken. Some user groups control devices according to which members of a group may have access to certain functions, information, etc., and which may not.
Abstract:
A unified messaging system includes a unit to store a message operable to store a message sent to a user, the message having a selectable security attribute set to a one of a plurality of levels. A module associated with the unit operates to secure a voice channel used by the user to listen to the message when the selectable security level is set to a high level indicating encryption. It is emphasized that this abstract is provided to comply with the rules requiring an abstract that will allow a searcher or other reader to quickly ascertain the subject matter of the technical disclosure. It is submitted with the understanding that it will not be used to interpret or limit the scope or meaning of the claims.
Abstract:
Methods and systems for providing dynamic messages to callers on hold are disclosed. In one such method, a telephone call is received into a queue and a first wait time is calculated which corresponds to a first estimated length of time expected to elapse before an agent is available to answer the telephone call. A plurality of message elements are assembled to create a message having a length approximately equal to the first wait time, and playback of the message is initiated. A second wait time is calculated during the playback of the message. The message is modified during playback to have a length approximately equal to the second wait time if the updated estimated length of time is different than the first estimated length of time. In various embodiments, the second wait time may be continuously calculated and the message may be continuously modified during playback.
Abstract:
In one embodiment, a method includes electronically detecting a gesture of a user listening to a speaker via a communication device, and generating an audible and/or visual response that corresponds to the gesture. The audible and/or visual response is then communicated to the speaker. It is emphasized that this abstract is provided to comply with the rules requiring an abstract that will allow a searcher or other reader to quickly ascertain the subject matter of the technical disclosure.
Abstract:
The present invention provides a system and method for providing fault tolerant IP services that includes establishing a first communication session between an originating telephony device and an application server, through a primary call manager. Failure of the primary call manager may be detected. A second communication session between the application server and a destination telephony device may be established via a back-up call manager. The first communication and the second communication session may be coupled at the application server to establish two-way communication between the originating telephony device and the destination telephony device.
